Yeah I thought the same thing. So on other news I drained the fluid and pulled the pan on my 47rh. The fluid was red and there was barely and material on the magnet in the pan. I think I may just throw in a shift kit, new filter and stick her in the truck. Anyone know what needs modified on the kick down cable to make it work?

I think I used the 1st gen TV lever and other wise it's the same. IIRC the 2nd gen throttle set up is "backwards" compared to ours, so the cable loops around the back and pulls the lever from behind.

The old man says its because I beat on it to much. I don't even really beat on it right now. The place I got the joint from wants to see pics and know what its in. They said there is no way it should be trashed that soon.

I've had joints do that in very short order.

It's always been in winter and on the back joint. Anytime I had a joint go bad from a hard beating was the front joint.

I feel it is due to dirt/grime that gets passed the rubber and just eats everything up.

That's what I told him. They were snug fit in the yoke but I didn't force them or anything.

If it's literally a straight shot through the joint it may have brinelled itself. Once that happens they die in short order when they do have to move.

Well after an email to drive train america they sent me a new joint out. It was on the porch yesterday when I got home. I pulled the caps and there is barely and grease. I'll add some grease before I install it.

Did you add grease to the last one?

I always check that stuff now. Guy at work told me that new wheel bearings come with about a teaspoon of grease in them. He was referring to the rear bearings on a front wheel drive car, but I believe him. The explains why the front bearings in my '95 1500 lasted a year and a half.

Mine are new on my truck and every time I grease them water squirts out, I don't drive in deep water, it's
hard to believe that much gets in from regular driving.

on a side note, the JD conditioner I have has two shafts with joints to run the crimper rollers, the grease fittings
are in the center of one of the caps, why don't auto u-joints use this type of lubrication system, it is so easy to get a
grease gun on it.
