New Era 370's in:

Postby MikeThomas » Sat Jan 26, 2008 3:44 pm

Just to say, im not being critcal, just sharing my observations, Chuck Is a super guy to deal with by the way:
So I got my injectors (370's) from New Era in today. Im on the fence at the moment about the bang for the $. When I first got them I was a little concerned because: a. They were dirty enough to make my fingertips black, b. the bag they came in was dirty and had 295hp crossed out and 370hp written below it..., and c. the copper washers had been crushed already. I called Chuck with these concerns and he stated that they may have been a test batch that got pulled off the shelf and dyno'ed on an engine....a little relief there. All went in well. My idle rpm has dropped a lot, which I understand to be normal for a larger injector, but she is also much quieter. Im not sure how much more boost im building because I was pegging the 35psi gauge with the stockers. There is definitely more pull at the higher rpms... something I felt the stock setup always lacked, but I cant gauge if there is a whole lot more HP....Maybe Im expecting more than what is actually to be? Smoke is a little more prevalent but not too bad....and EGT's, well i still cant hit 1200....the pump is fairly maxed out too.
Questions:
Do stock injectors have 6 holes?
If you run NE 370's, whats your take on them?
Chuck, if you have any input, please chime in (And thanks by the way!)
Sorry for rambling....Mike ;) :D

I have a set, with the same exhaust set up as yours. I like 'em! :2cool: I went right from stockers to these, with the stage IV upgrade at the same time. Big jump in power and seat of the pants feel. More smoke, more boost. I put down 366 on the dyno last fall, and my fuel screw is over a turn from runaway yet. I'll take care of that this winter. ;-)
Oh, and I can hit 1500* in 4th at about 3400 rpm. (roughly 93 mph).

Cool, somebody else with 370's.

Hopefully you can back up Sheepie's dyno numbers and prove that he didn't just get a fluke set.

why do bigger injectors decrease idle speed?

or why do you think they do

it works the opposite on my truck

when i put bigger inj in the idle speed increases (and it gets quiet)

This is off the subject at hand (sorry). What do you mean by stage IV upgrade? I see a lot of people talk about that and I have no earthly idea what you guys are talking about here. Excuse my ignorance lol!

A Stage III upgrade is a 8 blade 60mm compressor wheel and housing.
A Stage IV is a 6 blade, taller 60mm wheel, housing, and backing plate with a cut for the deeper wheel.
You can get a Stage IV from GDS, (Gillettes Diesel) for about $100 less, but you have to get your backing plate machined. I didn't want to mess around, so I spent the extra so I could swap it quick. ;-)

It's about the same for the HX upgrade as for the H1C.

I like the DDP4's...they seem to be a pretty efficient injector, no cranky morning start smoking, not too bad through the curve either unless the pump is maxed. Also heard you can send 'em back within 30 days if you feel they're too conservative and Dynomite will open 'em up :P Fuel mileage is still good too.
