You will not need anything if you have a donor truck. If the donor is in better shape then the 2wd, just swap the good engine into the 4x4 and your done.

the donar actually is not useful the auto tranny is bad and truck is rusted apart, i have swapped the rear axle and rebuilt the front axle with new seals, u-joints and brakes, i got a new 4wd gear box and steering shaft, along with a coupler that will mate my 23 spline transfer to the 29 spline standard, my questions are what do u have to do to the stock 2wd crossmember, why did you use a crossover steering and not use a different gear box? and what structural integrity issues will i have to worry about with torching so many rivets off

thanks alot! sorry i havent gotten the ball rolling till the past 2 weeks

Steering gears are the same, just different gear box plate tomounting location and orientation of the Pittman arm. You can torch off as many rivets as you need, as long as you replace whatever they are attaching with quality fine thread bolts, as they can be torqued further than coarse thread bolts. Using pinch nuts is always a good idea too. Crossover steering is a good choice as it results with better feel and response with the steering. As for the cross member, I can't answer that one... ;)

last I knew you had to notch the ends I believe. I would swap crossmembers if the one in the donor is good.

thanks guys! and I haven't seen it for myself but I was told the blind spline for the pitman arm is 1/4 back on a 2wd, plus I found a 4wd one that had a new draglink and everything, plus a revised steering column input shaft, so I wont have to be shimming it with beer cans any more  and im not worried about it handling well, I drove a ramcharger with bent a spring hanger and 35" tires for years

as for the rivets I have a mess of grade 8 fine thread bolts, but should I hoist the weight of the motor up before I start torching off a-arms? and will I have to change motor mounts if I do just swap the crossmember

I am wanting to do this swap but before I buy anything I was wondering if you had to change the title any.

Last one I did I just told them at the courthouse I converted when I played my registration and she just changed it and I gota new title. Nothing had to be inspected but that's Kentucky.

I have a 1979 Gmc used to be diesel and was changed to gas when I told the court house couple years back they made me get a salvage title. I really didn't want a salvage title on my dodge, this is in Nebraska.

i never thought of that either as far as insurance wise if you were to get in an accident and notice a 4wd titled as a d250, i suppose that could get sketchy

99% of non-1st gen owners don't know the difference between D models and W models. Heck, there are some 1st gen owners that don't even know the difference

Pretty much what I was thinkin also my dads cousin (the county sheriff) said that I think you could talk both vins off the 4x4 and put em on, but otherwise just not telling them would probably work the easiest.
