I kind of forgot about this. Ike how do you like the DeWalt?

As I insinuated in the first post, it's DeWalt or nothing for me because I already have a few DeWalt batteries. If I have to buy batteries too, it'd cost twice as much in most cases. I'd part with a few hundred like $1xx or $2xx for a bare tool, but not several hundred for a whole different brand of tool.

For $4-500, I'll just suck it up and use my Armstrong impact

I love it! It has served it's purpose well. It's not super heavy duty, but it'll drive screws into lumber, and tighten up exhaust clamps super snug. I am very pleased with it, the best gift I have ever recieved.

I just got new batteries for the one at work. It does great now so battery condition plays a big role in how well it will actually do. The old batteries do fine in my drill but suck on the impact.

The new cordless impacts are getting really good these days. I have a Snapon that works great for lug nuts and for raising/lowering my jacks on my trailer. :) I recently just picked up the Milwakee 12v 1/4" impact since it was on sale and I have a coult 12v tools and Iwas really supprised when it would loosen 10mm bolts, when I get some extra cash I would like to get the 3/8 since my 1/4 works so well.

I don't use them enough to justify the price of an electric impact.

I'm not sure what my 3\8 snappy pneumatic is but I was bustin 466 head bolts loose with it. I love mine. I've not used an IR though.

My IR is definitely under powered compared to a Snap-On. I keep thinking I'd like a MG-725, but the price!

+1 for the DeWalt 18v impact. Works great for my uses. There are times that I need the breaker bar and hammer still, but I use it quite a bit and it surprises me.

Cordless impact Round 2

Postby bgilbert » Tue Apr 08, 2014 7:04 pm

Caleb what did you end up with? I'm considering a Milwaukee 3/8's cordless impact. Mostly because I like them, I have a few of Milwaukee products and two types of batteries and chargers. But my question is what will a 3/8's impact do? Diff cover, getrag top cover, junkyard goodies?

Nothing

I haven't gotten into a project that I've needed one bad enough to buy one.

Bill, I use my little DeWalt for just about everything that doesn't require a breaker bar. Even on long winded stuff, I'll crack it loose by hand then spin it off with the impact. I use it around the house, its been awesome at my rental during the whole remodel, way easier, lighter, and smaller than using a drill for driving screws and such.

I splurged and bought a DeWalt DC820, seen here: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/ ... MgodYykAgA

I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but dad's truck will get new injectors in the next few days. I compromised on this one because that bigger one was a heavy SOB, even without the battery. It's physically huge too, so it won't fit into tight places. The smaller 1/4" drive one just didn't seen to have the nuts that I wanted. Plus the chuck isn't the square socket style that I really wanted.

Will report back with results.

I put my impact (see above) to the test this morning. Very happy with the power I has. I had no trouble breaking loose valve cover bolts and bracket bolts. I even zipped off a lug nut off my Dodge and I'm pretty sure it'd do all 32 if need be. It's very maneuverable and not too heavy. I'd guess the 18v battery weighs close to the same as the bare tool.

Over all, very happy with no complaints right out of the box.
