It seems a lot of dynos from around the country are not loaded dynos, and have a weighted drum of 3k or 6k or whatever. Those don't load the heavy trucks like common rail trucks nearly to what they are on the street and therefore running in higher gears helps.
Think of a low loaded dyno as running your truck in 4 low or 1st gear... . pretty hard to build boost, as it basically just "skates" through it.
Out "west", it is more common for newer dynos to be at events where massive loads can be placed on the engine, thus producing higher numbers. They can be more realistic, as it is the maximum that that engine can actually produce.
Back in the new England area, it seems that most dynos are only a 3k load...........I've heard of 1k plus hp trucks laying down in the 500 range. Yet lower trucks (which don't need the load) will product in that 300 range still.
