Been offline a while and mostly green but -
I had a '92 pig with the 21 housing and could barely make 3 PSI. A Yugo could beat me !
Put on a 14cm HX35 hot side and installed a 366 and holy hot potato !! Now it builds 23 PSI going up an on-ramp and cruises with 5 PSI at 65 MPH running mostly empty.
(Even with a clogged fuel screen in the tank. Just spent forever tracking down that grief, but that's for another posting)
Of course this wasn't a simple plug and play. Decided to rebuilt the turbo while it was off and good thing too. Took it apart with over 220K on it and it was just starting to rub the dirt on the inside of the compressor side. Can you say shiny blade edges ? Lucky me !
On the cold side I made a nice taper on the intake and polished the inside of the out put neck. You know - the simple stuff.
On the hot side I opened it up and matched it to the manifold and polished it nice and smooth. 1 port was an 1/8" smaller on 3 sides then the other.
When I was done even the bigger side was opened up close to a 1/4". Which left a bit more then 1/8" wall thickness. Both sides were tapered all the way in to just short of the start of the slot. Cleaned up the slot inside the snail to have an even distance from the wheel flange for a more even flow.
Doesn't even seem like the same truck now.
Forgot to mention - Now that it's making boost I discover that my ears don't like the song of a turbo. Anyone got a silencer ring they don't want ?
'92 ex-cab, A/T, 3.56, timing bumped 1/4" , 366 w/ fuel 1/2 turn past collar, smoke all the way out and a ported HX hot side. Airbox and core support drilled for more cold air.
A no budget work truck.
