Fuel pin spring tension

Postby tim curran » Mon Feb 03, 2014 5:47 pm

So I got my pump all back together and running. I played with the spring that pushes up on the diaphragm that holds up the fuel pin. What kind of tension should be on the spring, how much should I turn the star wheel on the bottom.
1993 w250, 3200 RPM springs, maxed fuel screw, industrial inj. Fuel pin, Dynamite diesel 75 horse inj., ind inj stage 2 pump, 60 lbs valve springs, ARP head studs, Banks ram air intake. 4 inch diamond eye exhaust,16cm turbo housing, 60 mm comp. Housing, BD tourqe converter, billet flex plate, Banks gauges, 212hp 608 tourque, old smokey and worn out.

The Star-Wheel is what sets the preload on the spring in question.

You want to set the star-wheel so that there's minimal smoke yet acceptable power when working the engine at a Part Throttle. Turning the Star-Wheel so it moves down will result in less preload on the spring thus, fuel will be heavier in a part-throttle, low-to-mid boost condition. Turning the Star-wheel so it moves up will result in more preload on the spring thus, fuel will be lighter in a part-throttle, low-to-mid boost condition.

To do it right, get use to the idea of having to adjust the Star-wheel multiple times. The goal being to have a light/medium grey smoke in a Part-Throttle condition (NOT wide-open throttle).

Hope this helps. :)
