i know it has 1400 on sunoco 120 but thats engine not at the wheels. and due to the fact its a little cube small block it only come in at 970 on the torque end of things. but with the new heads and little larger turbo than last year it might be up there a little higher

so comparing the torque and traction problems your s-10 has (had) it would be the same traction issues a 500 hp 1000 ft # diesel has

leavin anyways

on the big end gonna be way harder to hook the small block

out here we have the pacific street car assoc

they use motors like yours in 3k # cars and limit them to 10" tire

high 8's all the way down to high 7's

crazy stuff

Does the removal of the AFC lever affect fuel mileage at all?

Does it give better off the line performance? More to the point, what exactly does the removal of the lever do, and what can one expect from performing the mod?

which tranny do you have?

gear ratio?

tire?

what mods you got done to truck?

all of these factors affect the answer to your questions

it actually increases fuel all the way thru - but most noticable at the bottom

if you have a turbo that is already near the edge of the map takin that lever out will push it past its limits

I have an 89 dodge D-250 w/ the 5.9. It has approximately 320,000 miles on it. I rebuilt the injection pump with new gaskets and seals because it developed a leak at the distributor head. Automatic tranny. Everything is stock. So it's JUST like the one in Diesel Power's build-up.

never messed with that combo but i imagine the auto is trickier to drive w/o the afc than my stick

just pretend you are driving a 231 cu in v-6 with a 1150 dominator on it

you wouldnt floor that right off the line cuz if you did it would stall

same principle

LOL, you gotta sneak up on it, can't flat foot it or you'd put the fire out, big enough injectors would do that at least.

I can't comment on driving any auto without the AFC lever, but mine with a tight converter is terrible with the AFC lever and my custom pin setup to pull as much fuel out of the low end as I can. You still have to sneak up on it, it won't put the fire out, but it will put the lights out behind you.

Don,
Your comment on the turbo is right on, just injection pump tweaks push the baby H1C off the map, which in turn puts the EGT's into unacceptable territory.

I guess the biggest question before you remove the lever is what do you use the truck for. Working it or playing around? I think a truck that works/tows needs to have it , a play truck, do anything you want.
Mike
Thats not a leak, its the external lubrication system.
