- That item Wannadiesel was talking about in my thread over on DTR was the Injection Pump's fuel return line. Knowing some folks can't help themselves, she mentioned it. It runs just at the top of the lifter noise blanket. Roughly two or so inches above where one needs to make room for the new lift-pump.
You can see it in the top of the following image from that thread.

Regarding using a dull kinfe, IIRC, that was in reference to what one member used. I used a metal burr on an air-powered die grinder. Personally, I thought the fella that used the dull knife worked his butt off making room, never mind working with a dull knife tends to be dangerous.

With removing the little bit of the noise-blanket, there was plenty of room for the pump though I confess I did have to bend the top fuel line a little to clear things. no big deal.

- With any removal/installation of the 5.9 CTD lift-pump, be it the diaphragm or the piston type, one needs to have the camshaft parked where the lift-pump lobe is not working the lift-pump. having it otherwise only make the job that much harder. It's in the FSM.

- Trimming the noise insulation as shown above, you don't need studs to install the piston lift-pump. With stacking the gaskets, spacer and pump, the stock/OEM bolts are just fine. I did use gasket shellac on the stuff, so they stuck together as one unit upon installation.

I created that thread back on 02/25/06. To my knowledge, it's the only piston lift-pump install guide available on these here internets.
- Eric, perhaps you should include a link to that thread on your website on the LP page.
- If ya'lled like, I'll make a copy of my Piston Lift-Pump Install Guide here, in these forums if it would help.
And the DTR is NOT the darkside. LOL!
