77 rcsb 2wd on the track

Postby DodgeFreak » Thu Jan 22, 2015 4:08 pm

I was planning on dumping the cummins off into my 77 rcsb 2wd. I have a guy that is really wanting to get me on the track and is talking me out of the cummins for a 440. This is on an 1\8th mile. question is.....Would I be able to hook it up with the cummins? What gears would I need for 1\8 with the cummins. Should I stick with the 440??

Gut tells me to go with the 440 and hit the track......but that Cummins is just sitting there begging to be put in the truck....

Coming from a guy with a short bed reg. Cab Cummins it will take a lot of mods to get it to hook. If its a toy/race truck cut the firewall and move it back as far as possible. Then move fuel tank, battery and everything else you can to the tail. Mine won't hook the way it sits with a pretty stock engine.

If you can, 4 link the back and stuff big slicks back there.

Get some tall but soft springs for the front. It'll help push it up to transfer weight.

I'd like to keep it stock looking under the hood plus that sounds like more work than what I want to do lol.....4 link would be doable as my cousin is a weld\fabricator. I'm planning on stepside with fuel tank and battery in the bed. race seats up front. I wouldn't mind a glass front but I'd wait for now. no inner fenders.

I've thought about making it a dually so wonder if I could fit 4 slicks in the back or find some super singles or something. Not sure how the dually would hook with 4 slicks. It's more of a toy but I want it streetable also.

I'm looking for springs. I'll let you know. I'm hoping gasser 4x4 from a 2nd gen would work.
