68-69 VW smog pump

Postby stillsmokin » Sun Jan 18, 2015 10:51 pm

Wondering if anybody might have an old smog pump off a VW. I want one to push some boost into my 6.5 hp Lister Petter diesel on my garden tractor to clean up the low RPM smoke and make a little more power. They are a miniature roots type air pump. Looks to be a better design than the GM type.

I'm just tinkering with old chit since it's winter.

They were used in 68-69 beetles and porche 912's, from what I have researched. It has been said the sealed bearings used in them only lasted 30,000 miles or so and most of them were pulled off out here in non emission country. I've seen a few turn up on e shaft (ebay). I could buy a 6-71 detroit blower for less...hell I could get the 6-71 with the blower for less!

Somebody has one laying around.

What about using one of those things that takes exhaust gasses to spin a wheel. That wheel is connected to a shaft which has another wheel at the other end. That other wheel draws the air in, and compresses it before shooting it down some plumbing, and into the engine? I think that'd probably work good too

Yeah. And while you're at it might as well throw a little water/meth and nitrous at it

And the #2 Derailer sends it right off the deep end by adding 200hp to the 6.5 garden tractor!

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
