Go for bigger valve springs. They'll help prevent float.

Get more gear. Either an OD trans or high rear end gear. My old 92 ran a 10 1/8 with 4.10s and 33" tires. If I was just slightly faster, I'd have used 5th more. Since yours an auto with no delay in shifting, you'll be wanting that OD more.

Converter, talk to Phil at Diesel Performances Converters.

i do have a over drive trans available also

would I keep the 4.10 or still go to a 3.54 ( next gear I have)
also have a 4.56 gear laying around

How is OD applied , if I got the pedal to the floor ?
Will it shift into OD, when it gets past a certain speed

Thanks for your reply

I'm trying to learn about this stuff

And have fun too

You can wire OD to a toggle switch and make it cone on when ever. All your doing is grounding the solenoid in the trans to engage OD. With 3.55 gears and a 27" tire my truck needed more rpm or a higher gear. I switched to a 3.25 with a 31" tire and it does a lot better up top. Since your only running 1/8th it may not affect you as much. Throw an external waste gate on and spray it.

what about wiring in a pressure switch
in the governor port
example>> 52psi= 52mph
to turn on OD

will it hurt the trans to shift into OD, under load?

I do lots of WOT runs into OD. Not hurt yet.

I don't think you need to switch to 3.55s yet.

If you do use a pressure switch, you can wire in a potentiometer to make it adjustable.

My truck likes to shift into OD around 62mph if I don't turn off OD. If I turn it off and let it go to 65mph and let it shift after that around 70mph, it shifts harder and goes faster by SOP dyno.

Around 62? That's about when I hit 3rd. OD is closer to 85 for me.

I've adjusted the TPS and VB to no end. If I lock it out til after 70, it'll shift around 75 but I'm defueling then. Still stock gov spring.

I just prefer the control of the toggle switch. The ups delete was a waste of money and never worked right.

update
finally got the time to stuff it in the old girl....

Have had her over 20 years
many different combos
last was a 540 stroker (set back 12")
since pulling the engine, to put in a 72 Dart project,

every tine I walked past the 68 Satellite
I kept hearing >>>Come here
got closer she was saying Cummins

Decided why not--- LOL
So, I dragged her out of the barn.

Surprised how easy it went in
changed the fixed yoke, short shaft on the trans,to a long shaft/ slip yoke

used the trans mount as a locator for front to rear position

Image

has a full roll cage / frame connectors... Dana 60, spool, 31 x 13 x 15

Didn't know you were dropping it in a Satellite. Pretty cool deal. How far back is it set in there?

It's set back, where the front of a 440 would normally sit.

when the 540 was in there
it was set back 12"

I would recommend the o/d trans, and the early 89 engine, and 4.10 gears. That way you have the quicker gearing taking off, but have the top end gearing if needed.

The advantage to the early engine is two things.....1 the pistons, the 2nd is the non i/c pump. They have larger slots in the h/r. Take the ksb, fulcrum lever, and throttle rods off the i/c pump. These things will allow a little more pump turn up without runaway (non i/c pumps like to runaway) and still have the advantage of the larger slots. The larger slots CAN help utilize a higher injection pressure when using larger sticks. Essentially put the non i/c h/r on an i/c pump.
89 RC on shortened 92 diesel frame - NV4500 w/dual disc/4.10s on 37s. - Self built pump, "hot screw", lots of timing, True high volume low pressure lift pump, 62fmw/68/.7gated, 77lpm SAC Inj., Studs/O-rings,- 423/1220 Mustang - 11/16/2013 http://www.TheHungryDiesel.com full line dealer, if you don't see it please ask.

thanks everyone for the info

RCCUMMINS89- I read your reply slowly a few times-lol
i got ya on the Non I/C engine, od trans, and 4.10 gear

then you say > Take the ksb, fulcrum lever, and throttle rods off the i/c pump
am I swapping pumps, or putting the i/c parts on the Non i/c pump ??
got lost
i'm new to modding diesels

will running a electric pump to supply the injection pump, help anything ?
or just run the lift pump

hope to run this project nov 7 > last day track is open

then make the changes, over the winter
one will be swap in the 518
right now I can run
with out having to shorten the drive shaft (727)
and make another trans mount

also change the gear form 4.56 to 4.10
going to swap gears from my Dart to the Satellite (have dana 60 in both)
if I find out the dart likes more gear vs the Satellite wanting less gear
(have a 8 3/4 to use to test the ratio, (4.56) in the dart next week)

4 door dart in action---lol
