I run Val All-Fleet 15-40. Only cause the old man ran it for years, its what i grew up knowing and using. I hear Rotella is good oil, know alot of people who use it.

About to send a Rotella sample off to the blackstone labs. Anyone ever send samples off?

NO PETE, don't run to the bedroom to check, not that type. I always use rotella. Get it by the 55 gallon drum and it goes in all our diesels. I had one boat I used ursa in as the previous owner had used that.

Foot to mouth, I ran Rotella before Delo  Tons of people run it (most?), only reason I switched to delo is it's a decent bit less expensive, and seems to have just as good oil analysis reports as rotella.

So I've heard most modern diesel oils (because of emissions) have little to no zinc and molybdenum, which our flat tappet engines would love to have. Anyone know of oil that still has the good stuff?

I don't need to run check Rich, it's something my wife sells! ;)

I use mobil 15w-40, we get it in bulk at work. Spencer, what are looking for is a CI rated oil. CJ is the newest rating and has lower levels of zinc and moly.

Yep, my diesel instructor stocked up on 30 or so gallons of the old oil. Where would one find said gold?

Check around, NAPA, oil supply place, any auto parts. It will say right on the jug, pail, quart, box or whatever what the rating of it is.

If you're that worried about it you can always buy some zinc/moly additive. The little bottles are around $10 or so and treat 1.5 gallons. I run two per change because of my cam but for someone just looking for a bit more I'm sure a single bottle per change would be plenty.

Greaaaaaat, decided to open the monster size can of worms did you?

I use 15w-40 in mine. I had synthetic 50w in it for a while, but then it started shifting harder, it wouldn't go into gear easy at high speed, so I went back to 15w-40 oil.

I run random 10w30 with an extra dose of moly additive in my 'rag.
