New trucks and EGT's

Postby spencerdiesel » Sun Dec 20, 2015 6:17 pm

On other forums, I've seen guys with factory trucks state they've seen anywhere from 1350 to 1500 plus (loaded of course)..........if this is true, what alloys are modern pistons made of?

Not sure what trucks you mean. I know the new dodges run a lot hotter than ours do, engine temps up to 230 or so, and EGTs hotter because of the emission crap on them.

Sorry that was a little vague  Commonrail dodges primarily. So what sustained temps have you heard of with them?

O ok. Know if anyones ever tested the waters of > 1250 sustained on 12v's? I know it's stupid to risk experimentation with that but I get curious occasionally.

By that I mean Cummins inc. tests. If something was actually deformed or melted @ 1300 or so in testing, thus the 1250 standard....?

The new cr stuff is rated to about 1400*. I've held 1900* for bursts with my 6.7 when I still had the stock turbo. She still runs fine, but with the new chargers I've had on I don't get so hot anymore

I doubt they're made of any better materials, I think they just have better control of the timing. On our trucks when the EGTs are at 1200 then the cylinder temp is also at a certain temp. They're tied hand-in hand with our timing which, while variable, is still set to RPMs.

CR trucks can vary their timing to any number of variables, so even though their EGTs are 1200 their cylinder temps could be any range of temps.

Thanks for the #'s Dman. That would make some major sense, I knew them computers did more than just make my brain hurt

Any 1st genners with a lot of timing still hold 1250 continuous with no issues?

Are our exh. valves sodium filled?
