Working on putting a Perkins 14hp liquid cooled into my antique JD garden tractor, does that count?

It's not quite that small, but I put a 1.9L tdi into a minivan.

Spencer, check here, viewtopic.php?f=10&t=15368&p=145632&hilit=diesel+garden+tractor#p145632
It's farther along now, by a little, the engine is painted, radiator hoses run, fuel tank and wires figured out but not installed yet.
This will give you an idea anyways, the air cleaner will fit under the stock hood, and the stock grill will cover the radiator.

Read the whole thread on the 1.9 powered ford, I'd drive it! You ever get new injectors or juice it up any? Tractor was awesome, must have missed it what motor?

Onan diesel? Sounds like a motor-oil-eating candidate to me

See post previous to the one with the link. ;) It came out of an auxiliary power unit for a big rig.

Sorry Pete I should have communicated better, I was wondering what specs etc. Sips fuel better than a tecumseh I'd imagine

No injectors yet. Too busy with other stuff this year like a new farm shop, 1750' fencing and water lines on the farm, etc. I did make a belly pan for it that starts at the front and goes a bit over a third of the way back. It makes an unbelievable difference in warm up times. Now the heat gauge will move at under the three mile mark and full heat at about 6-7 miles at 40 degrees ambient. Previously those numbers would have been nearly double. I also had to replace the rear axle on the van after it broke this summer.

Well I can see what you mean then. Its quite nice to have warmer-than 0 degree temp in-vehicle. Were you dragging a duramax when she broke :bounce: ?

No idea on specs. It has an inline individual pump unit like a Yanmar or Kubota, and figuring out how to make the throttle work the right way to the lever on the tractor sucks! I think it's going to be backwards, it's easier than making the darn bellcrank come out in the right spot.

If you're like my crazy long arm buddies you just grab the throttle index on the pump and hang on  Of course they were also backing up and poppin wheelies on the teachers kubota........so nevermind

Are there any clones (Chinese mainly I reckon) that are worth anything? I know theres got to be a reason a Yanmar L70 costs 2.5 times what the Asian equivalent does......

I know it has been said if you buy a china generator or pressure washer run it for an hour or so, then drain the silver oil out and then it is usually ok. I bought a generator from Pep Boys and ran it for an hour under a slight load, then changed the oil. It wasn't as bad as stated above, but it had a metal sheen to the oil.
