That's what the trucks fuel filter is for. I do burn through 1 every 3000 miles when I'm running more than 50% oil. I don't think much gets past it. The better you filter before you put it in the tank the longer it lasts. I always keep 3 or 4 extra behind the seat. I've thought about a heater for the filter that's kinda like a heated beer cozy. That should allow my cold weather mix to be a little thicker and help with the big temp changes I have out here.

I agree with bigger contaminants, but our factory fuel filters are 20-25 micron. A lot of people running motor oil/ATF say its the little hard particles under 5 micron in size that wear the fuel system the most.......

Which leads me to think thats because the 5 micron and under particles are the ones that slip through our nominally rated 1 micron filters

I've never used the factory spec fuel filter. Nothing fancy, just a 5 or 10 micron equivalent.

I'm sure slip through will happen. That's why I think the centrifuge is a better idea, though I've never used or seen one. I wouldn't hesitate to keep doing what I've been doing.

How clean do you think pump fuel is really?

That's where I give you major props :D If your pump and injectors are still doing well after that much waste oil, your doing something right :) I've got a dual fuel filter head and am going to go with 8-10 micron FS, then a 2-5 micron FF

I agree about pump fuel too, I'm just always leery about our waste fuels that could have metal contaminants, as opposed to dust/dirt/junk in pump fuel. But I guess dirt/abrasives could be just as rough on stuff as metal particles

If it works (and has) for you, ill do it too.

The best oil is non synthetic from BIG motors. Like at a big rig shop. They are usually all too happy to give it away so they don't have to pay to haul it off. The oil I got from the oil rigs was from the gen sets that had 3 Cat 3512's running around the clock.

Do you blend before it goes in the truck?

Unless I'm gonna run 100% oil, I always mix in a drum till I like the viscosity/thickness. I only ever ran 100% on the hottest days 90+ degrees. That's pretty hot for Montana anyways. A casual observation was that 80/20 Oil to diesel was half as thick as 100% It thins down pretty drastically.

What's the coldest you've run it before? Ever tried 50/50 oil/kero?

Anything below 25 I would stick around 10 or 20% oil. Anything below 0 don't use anymore than maybe a gallon in a tank for performance sake.

Keep your mix outside so you can see how thick it is at each time every fill. Oil adds alot of energy to the diesel. Even a little in winter mix diesel makes a big difference. If you are driving around and the temp drops and you IP starts complaining, head to a pump and top it off with #2. Or #1 if you have a mostly full tank. I remember doing that a few times, adding 3 gallons #2 to thin it out.
