Fuel Pin, 3200 spring = no difference?

Postby JQmile » Wed Feb 13, 2008 8:30 pm

OK so I put in a 3200 spring, and I'm not seeing much of a difference. With the stock spring I could turn it up about 4 1/2 turns (fuel screw) and still not see a runaway, but it would fuel pretty much up to 2700rpm. With the new spring it goes up to the governor if I rev it up in neutral at 4 turns, and at 3 1/2 turns it fuels up to 2700, then drops off at about the same rate. Ideas?
Also, I put in an aftermarket fuel pin, and I'm not noticing much of a difference by the butt-o-meter. It seems like I should notice 20 or 30 more hp. Could I be running out of fuel pressure? Lift pump is still stock. Again, ideas? Pin is set at the deepest position.

Thanks guys.

After market fuel pin only has one setting doesn't it? Fuel pressure guage would be a good idea. Wait, DDP 4's and a molested pump and your still depending on a stock LP. Wow do you read your magazines?

Shadup :D I'm eventually going to a 14mm head so I am trying to stay away from a $500 fuel system right now. Might try a holley blue pump I have laying around.....

have you changed your fuel filter recently ?

a fresh one might help right now until you get a higher flowing lift pump installed .

JQ,
There is a pin that goes in and out on the inside of the pump where you insert the fuel pin and that pin can jam, a little WD40 and moving the pin back and forth can release the pin and you will begin to see the effects of the new fuel pin, after installing the spring and grinding my pin i saw a 30hp increase on the dyno.

with those sticks and a tweeked pump there is no way the stock fuel system will keep up. i had a holley blue and all of my banjo bolts drilled and it was still not keepin up on the top end with just 435's.

Fuel!

Stock LP won't keep with stock I/C injectors and a good, tweaked VE. At least mine didn't. Pulled down to 2-3 psi under WOT load. You're starving that VE.

opps, meant 4's

but he really isnt running those either

ddp opened em up another 25% over a stock 4 for him

so...they are prolly about the same as a 435 or 5x14

Hey guys, found out what it was, stock intake and exhaust were holding me back big time on the top end, 3200 spring worked fine.

Ace, my Airtex junk LP wont keep up with my stock injectors and VE either, though if I only dropped to 2-3psi, it wouldnt be so bad. Mine goes to 0 with 20+ boost or 3k+ rpm.

Anyone know where to find a Carter pump?

I have one sitting on my bench, but it's kinda like yours. You could double them up? :D
