I want to say there should be a couple in the 2nd gen section on cf.
Ducati- professional nap taker, and thread derailer extraordinaire
Brownie: 80 dodge heavy half. Ghost cummins under the hood, and some sinister plans
The Roo Hunter: 93 w250, lifted, 2 whistle machines, and a bunch of other go fast goodies, uhh..... not there yet
Jaeger: 12 ram 3500. Lifted, exhausted, and fed an excessive quantity of air
The Huntress: 02 Jetta TDI. No muffler, egr, horsepower

Not to derail but I was thinking on making a spacer similar to the m&h timing kit. Anyone have measurements on the thickness of spacer and shim?

You'll find that most folk in the 1st gen crowd are a tight knit.... meaning it's pretty rare to find someone who will openly copy someone else's product and/or give people an exact measurement. As we are proud to sponsor those who support us.

Now in saying that........Doesn't hurt with experimenting with thicknesses an timing curves/sweeps. That we can talk more in depth about.

I hear ya. Didn't mean to take anything away from that.

Didn't know if anyone else has made their own.

Me, if I have the capability and access to the right tools, would rather make my own parts than pay for them.

I'll probably start with 1/4".

How do you adjust case pressure? At what point on the hp spectrum is it a good idea?

Fuel: THD 6x10 VCO sticks, THD 12 psi piston pump, THD fuel pin, 366 spring, fuel screw 2 turns in, timing to the head/ >1/4”
Muffler delete

Minimum 60% WMO full time since Sep. 2018

One needs to tap the pump somewhere and put a gauge on it, in order to properly adjust pressure.

What's the best way to keep the shavings out of the internals?

1/4" is a lot too much.

Most were using the shut down solenoid hole with a gutted and tapped solenoid body?

BC847 widdled one up for me in the side of the top half of the pump. It's perdy fancy if I do say so myself.

If one were to make a spacer......... I would start around 1/8" and trial and error from there. Back in the day folks would shave the advance piston as well.

I think begle1 had some threaded plugs to replace the fss a couple years ago. He may still have them.

Reading up on it, Looks like the spacer allows for 4mm more piston travel.

I've been painstakingly fine tuning my driving habits lately to spend the least $ on my 80 mile daily round trip commute. Coasting down hills, keeping highway speed between 45 and 48 mph; I've been getting a hand calc'd 25-25.8 mpg on the highway.

Question being, with such light throttle loads and demands at low highway cruising speeds, will I see any gain from timing advance? I'm only turning 1600-1700 rpm at the speeds I'm going, but I'd like to think a bump would help?

Just can't think that it would because its low throttle & low engine speed and the fuel is *probably* being completely burned, wouldn't advance just push on the piston too soon and not be needed for low load?

In that particular situation, lower timing will yield better mpg.

A jaunt home on the beautiful blue ridge parkway left me with some more questions.

A few weeks ago (checking egt) I did a hard wot pull up a grade to 80 in 5th. I saw a slosh under 1400.
I have since been on harder and longer wot pulls with about 2k lb of firewood, in 5th but not able to go faster than 56 up a particular hill to check egt. I couldn't for the life of me get past 1300.

Main diff being on the 1400 run I topped out at 2900 rpm, and otherwise staying between 1700 & 2k (all is of course wot).

Is the 100 extra degrees at high rpm from to little advance and burning in the manifold?
