"too much headache" depends on the truck and the installer. To explain more in depth.......every truck is different as far as body lines, etc, etc..... 4" is tight. I've had some trucks that it falls into place and one wouldn't even understand how anyone would have trouble. Others..........takes some finagling. To give some rough estimates of numbers........ I bet 3-4 out of 10 kits we sell, I get a call saying a piece doesn't fit, or it's impossible to get in. Whether these are Daimond eye or MBRP kits. Transmission mounts, engine mounts, etc...... change angles and going through the transfer case is very tight on some trucks.

I had a de kit on my 4 wd and the tcase piece was tight. I now have it on my 2wd crew and the over axle piece hits the shock cross member but clears ever where else.

I bought the pricey stans kit for my 89 back before the DE kit was available. Works well, I have part of the DE kit on my 93 messaged slightly for the driveshaft to fit. I called them and they sent a new down pipe to me for free as they found they had a fit issue. (5 years back or so),, My 92 will be getting the spare freebe when that gets reworked. For the money, DE gets my vote. Even with a little fittment issue here and there, its so worth the money. My 89 is straightpiped now and sounds like poo, my 93 with stacks is straightpiped and sounds really good. I get thumbs up and many comments while driving it.

I'm not sure how accurate the db on my phone is, but when we went to Oklahoma this past weekend it was 4" straight pipe exiting behind the rear tire. Pulling a trailer with a 74 Plymouth Duster at 70-75 it was 84 db. With a straight through muffler it was 81-82db at same speed with a 91 Dakota excab with the bed loaded down. Another variable was I turned the pump down a turn but that shouldn't have had an affect on the noise I wouldn't think. I know its not an accurate comparison but something to go by. The biggest difference was not how loud it was but it took some of the harshness out from the drone. It is pretty quiet outside because in my town I would drive between two brick buildings and it would be really loud if I rolled into the throttle. Now it doesn't hardly change. I made my exhaust so I can swap out the muffler in a matter of about 5 minutes.

Ive got 4 inch straight from the turbo back to a 5 inch tip and isnt bad at all, even with all windows open you can tell its loud if u were outside of it but driving around inside you could hear radio fine and hold conversations.

You people must have better sound deadening in your trucks than I do, I took it again down to Oklahoma to pick up a Formula S fish and running 70-75 unloaded wasn't horrible but still had to talk louder than normal and have the radio up louder and running 70-75 loaded it was worse and deafening, the only trucks I've been in that was worse was ppump, and a 24 valve straight piped trucks with stacks, those were bad. only reason I left it straight piped because at normal speeds 55-60 its not bad and I like the sound but on trips I hate it. If I knew it wouldn't quit and I could afford it I would run a muffler bypass with an electronic cutout.

Get a small linear actuator. They are reasonably priced and all you need is a 2 way momentary switch to run it. I have a small one here with about a 3 inch throw I got cheap.

On the highway the wind noise makes me have to turn my stereo up, and it's really only when you slow down that you realize just how high the volume is. And I didn't realize it before, but almost all of my exhaust noise is turbine whistle. When I can afford them it'll be interesting to see how the bw 68mm, and 87mm turbine sound together.

I recently chopped off my muffler on my 92 D250. I dumped the exhaust in front of the rear diff and was a little disappointed with how quiet it was at initial start-up. At idle, it doesnt sound very loud at all. Only slightly deeper. At low speeds it is noticeably deeper sounding(AKA Awesome). At cruising speeds I cant really tell too much of a difference inside the truck but at WOT it sounds pretty good. I was hesitant to cut my muffler off at first because I live in a neighborhood and didnt want to deal with the neighbors bitchin but as long as i dont have a heavy foot in the neighborhood it isnt that loud. I wish I would have straight piped it sooner.

Anyone want to post exhaust clips? On occastion I've seen a YouTube vid where I thought the exhaust of certain VE trucks was phenomenal, and others with the same exact exhaust (be it all 4", 3" dp to 4" etc) sounded less enthralling.

I'm searching for sound something like this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0tUUeTAJUrk
