I love the " cummings " for sale adds. Drives me nuts. I see them all the time from heavy equipment, to lobster boats for sale. " Its got a cummings " Makes you want to slap em. By the way, hey begle boy long time no see. I'm not on much any more. I do read some to try to keep up on things, forgot most of what I knew. Seems funny to read my old posts and learn something all over again. Being taught by my old self. :D

Howdy back.

Yeah, my poor truck hasn't ran in years, it's moth-balled without an engine back home in California and the machine shop is going to have my block finished "any day now" (as of last January). It hurts.

Occasionally I'll find an old post of mine and think, "wow, that man is on point!" before realizing it was just something I wrote 5-10 years ago.

All 3 of mine are still plugging away, but with winter setting in they will be parked. My 89 see's the least use, maybe drove it 400 miles this year. She really needs a paint job, factory paint 50% flaked off, looks pretty sad.

I will never never never buy a ford diesel unless they do put a cummins in them, my cousin is the mech for a large pole barn company they have all ford job trucks 450's, now mind you they are not pampered, but he hase junked more than one less than 8 year old truck because of the major damage to the engines, right now he has a 6.4 with the cab off and a busted piston from a hydro lock, they are not going to fix it, the truck has 200k needs tires, shocks, brakes plus a new engine, it will go to the fience row tomorow.

around 10k for a used engine with lowish miles.

If you do that the heart will be great but the rest is still junk. At least on the ford the truck is decent, it's only the engines that are lacking. ;)

you are correct...ford does make a fair truck, but no way I could ever drive one unless I moved to a place where nobody knew me.

Plus you need a shop with a lift to remove the body for engine work.

we just had a 2009 Ford F550 get over 14k dollars worth of work done to it. It had an engine put in it back in 2014. This is just one example and most of the Fords we have are the same way.

How are the Rams cab and chassis holding up?????? I am so far out of the game I don't read anymore. We may look at a new ram chassis to replace the 08 dmax as a plow and sand truck. The 08 has 21k on it, but the gremlins started 2 years back with rusted fuel lines, rusted tranny lines, and now an intermittent " reduced power " and other pain in the ass problems. I assume the fords still suck???? How are the new ram auto's for extreme service ( plowing )????

Supposedly the Aisen is the hot ticket for an auto in the Dodge. The 68RFE(?) trucks are rated less horsepower, and the manuals are rated less yet. I haven't been on TDR in quite a while, but I haven't heard of any major failures.

The 68rfe isn't an option in 4500-5500 chassis cabs, G56 or the Aisin. Nice thing about the G56, would be the ability to swap in a 12V easily when the 6.7 takes a $$$$ nap.

I just don't hear nothing bad about an Aisen,

We haven't had any major issues with the engine or trans in them that I have heard of. but some of them see to have early failure of the idlers and water pump. The balljoints seem to go around 50k miles. The rear end starts to chatter if you don't change the oil around 45k miles. Seem to have some minor annoyances as far as reliability but nothing major yet.
