I would try it. If its cast steel it would weld ok. Run a bead of 7018 on it and run her.
Years ago I welded up a yoke that broke one ear off. I built it up and filed the bed where the u joint cap sat, drilled a hole for the hold down and ran it for a whole year plowing snow commercially.
