91 valve adjustment

Postby ggreenall90 » Mon Aug 07, 2017 1:36 pm

How else can I find TDC without using the timing pin? Mine doesn't seem to want to move and it's probably near impossible trying to find the little hole in the timing gear.

I pulled mine out several years ago. I used a pair of needle nose pliers, don't use the jaws, put the stem below the knob of the pin between the handles near the joint, put the jaws against the gear housing and pull the handles prying against the jaw tips. It will pull the pin out with the retainer. I threw the retainer away, removed the old hard o-ring and cleaned up the pin.

Now, with the o-ring off it will slide easily in the hole and with it out you can see the hole in the gear with a mirror and use the pin for the final fitting. When your done, put a new o-ring on the pin, turn the engine a bit where the hole in the gear isn't lined up anymore, push the pin in until it contacts the gear and then pull it out just a bit. The new o-ring will hold it where it won't fall out. Mine's been like that a long time.
