Just a little more . . . . .

How to make it go fast

I'm pleased to say the return trip from the coast was uneventful. While on the interstate, I remembered the data-logger thingy!

So, the other day, Jason and I were talking P/Rs and such and I got to talking about the more realistic, normal driving conditions. So . . .

I pulled off the highway and plugged in the logger USB thingy and started it.

I pulled onto my lane and leaned on the throttle so as to come to a steady-state load of acceleration at about 60% throttle . . . and held it there till i was up to 70ish mph. (I got off the fuel a little for gear-changes so as not to blow anymore smoke than necessary. Cars were coming up behind me . . . . initially ;) ).

Image

Primary: 2.10 P/R @ 16.2psig.
Secondary: 1.51 P/R @ 32psig

33.8psig @ intake-log / 30.8psig back-pressure.

Next, I'm simply maintaining 75mph . . .

Orange is the engine RPM.
Top-Purple is the EGT. You can see the heat go up and down with the throttle application to maintain highway speed.
Those plots at the bottom are the turbos and boost, etc.

Image

Looking at a portion that shows a relative average of things gives me . . . .

Primary: 1.15 P/R @ 2.3psig.
Secondary: 1.27 P/R @ 7psig.

7.7psig @ intake-log / 6.1psig back-pressure.

Loving the Boost to Back-Pressure ratios of better than 1/1. :D

Well, then . . . . . . .

I find the data logger intriguing. Just curious BC, what does that large injectored beast get for fuel mileage?

I'm guessing about 13-16 mpg, with all the data logging and whatnot. But I bet the fuel to torque curve is pretty good.

It's historically been 16 or so.

I filled the truck before heading to the coast this past Friday. The odometer says I drove 304 miles round-trip. The fuel tanks gauge says I've got a little over a quarter-tank left (with the truck sitting dead-still for a while).

NOTE: When the Low Fuel light comes on, I've siphoned out perhaps eight or so gallons from the tank. I figure there's that much, if not ten or so still in there.

Got the radiator reservoir sorted out. Originally intended for a Toyota Landcruiser er something.

Fits nice. 8)

Any time I take photographs, it's common for me to get multiples of all the different subjects. Same for the above image.

Reviewing the photos, looking at all the stuff that needs paint/touch-up, that loud-ass radiator cap, etc, I noticed I've yet to connect and run the stupid power cord for the crankcase heater.

Another thread in the rat's nest. Perfect.

Gotta better dress the wire-loom stuff. That coming down off the alternator is the gauge/data-logger sensor wiring. That larger one is the OEM cabling for the alternator. That one I can make smaller.

My Son wants to do a "Wire-Tuck" to it.

Glad you're still making progress. Does it seem stronger now?

It does. 8)

This whole process has been a test of my resolve. (I struggled to say that nicely).

Now, I've got an ear infection that's really screwing with my ability to tune by ear, for what that's worth.

I've got to get on with connecting the transmission pressure gauges so i can see where the line-pressure's at. Then act on it.

I really don't mind the work. It's actually still fun when I can get down to it. Except when it's 90+*f and over 75% relative humidity. Then, it's not fun. :?

I must say though, this data-logger business is compelling more questions than answers. Frankly, IMO, it's illustrating the old saying, "You can't have your cake, and eat it too".

Dave, that's real pretty and all, but it takes me 15 or 20 minutes to decipher it!

It is a lot to digest, Pete.

Fixing to add sensors for transmission line-pressure and IP case-pressure. (That's my latest excuse for not hooking up the trans pressure gauge-set).

I'm a liar if I tell you messing with the truck lately is fun. That trublo sthi was frustrating. A lot of it was self-imposed I reckon.

Just been doing yard work and stuff the last weekend or two. Cut the upper field recently and have been cutting out undergrowth around some patches of trees with the Son's help. He got a couple of pics of the mess.

The money for paint went into trublos.

Need to wash the mess.

So get out there and turn some fuel into tire smoke, that's why you built the thing isn't it?

Yeah, . . . . I'm still working on it.

Got the data-logger sensors for the trans line-pressure and IP case-pressure installed.

Nice. 8) Where are you referencing case pressure on the IP?
