Ignition barrel problem

Postby Jelmer » Wed Jan 31, 2018 1:36 am

I have a problem with the ignition barrel of the 93. Yesterday I wanted to start the truck so I obvious turned the key in the ignition but it felt like it slipped a tooth. Now you can get the ignition on but you can't turn it enough to get to the "start" position. Also, now you can pull the key in a different position than originaly on the position with the little tab on the column covers.

Anyone have an idea?

Sounds like it wore out and skipped inside. It's been a while since I played with one but I think a new switch is in your future.

This part?:

Would be nice to keep the current key, it still has a matching set for the doors and ignition.

After looking at that, maybe not the switch but where the key cylinder meets the switch. I think you need to take it apart and look at it.

When mine did that, the end of the barrel broke. Like pete said just pull it apart and check it.

I had a look at it real quick but I didn't have the torx bit with a hole in it so I need to get that first.

But I noticed that the bottom cover had some ripples in them from the ignition wires that run there. Those must have been very hot to make the plastic ripple!
Also, the wipers and clock didn't work but when I hit the ignition switch they started working.

Black93 nails it! The barrel end has a piece broken of. So I need a new barrel too. The switch did cure the problem with the not working wipers and clock. The connector on it also needs attention because some wires are burn't. The big red feed wire was a bit loose so I crushed the socket a bit so that it is tight again.
