Headlights look like mine lol. Bet the little plastic adjusters are broke on top.

I tore the hell out of the one I'm running now.

I'll pull it and save it just for you.

Threw some 1.5" Alcans on the old girl. Pretty decent ride improvement, it still likes to drop down into holes but it's much more forgiving coming back up out of them. The old springs would just follow ruts and frost heaves, you were pretty much on a roller coaster. They still don't match the 64" Chevy's in the rear, but I don't think anything 48" would.

Ride is much nicer so far, now I've got to get some shocks to match them now. Definitely no Bilsteins.

Ride height change, probably came up 3" over the stockers. I threw in one of the leafs I removed from the 64" rears and it brought it up pretty close. I figure he Alcans will sag a little eventually.

Old vs new. Old ones are hammered, you can see that one poor bastard's support leaves aren't even trying to stick with the main. Not to mention they're sawing into the ones above them, one is almost halfway through.
Image

Here's the swaybar I put on it, just a piece of C-channel that the factory front bar bolts to. I left the ends hanging out to weld verticle brackets onto if needed, but, they weren't needed so now it just looks hacked. I'm not unhacking it.
Image

I just made some tabs out of 1/2" plate and welded them straight to the axle tube. They look a little grouchy here because this is full droop while I was adding leafs. I may have to extend them up some to match the lift, I'll handle that if they ever break.

Bringing it back, boys.

It's been a while, I've been DD-ing the RC and letting the old dodge rot, but I recently had to go grab one of my old RC drivetrains for a guy and had to fire up the old Dodge.

It rode better than I remember and I definitely forgot how good it ran.

I went out just today and picked up this turd wagon. No engine, but it does have a full Getrag swap and a set of 4:10 axles. The truck itself is somewhat of an enigma as it has W350 Custom badges but it VINs out as a W250.

Image

Image

It has a rear D70 axle judging by the amount of lip hanging under the d60 cover someone put on it. It measures out as a SRW to the backing plates, but it's got 5/8" studs. Anyone got any thoughts on what axle I'm dealing with? I can't find a BOM or anything else on it. I really only bought it for the bed and axles, I'm hoping to put duals under the Dodge, I'm curious if this is some weird 1-ton SRW axle.

I miss seeing updates on this. I wonder how the old trucks are doing these days.

A bunch of guys have vanished. I always liked watching what Levi was going to come up with next on his trucks.

Dude, fkcu photobucket.

How dare they not let me park hundreds of my pictures for free on their servers for eternity.

Anyway, believe it or not this turdwagon is back from the dead. I pulled the RC down to convert the alternator to internal regulation and it was so easy I decided to give it a shot on the old dodge too.

Not nearly as easy.

I did eventually get it and it created an itch I hadn’t gotten to scratch in a long time. So, why not finally install that 2ndgen intercooler I bought for it like 7 years ago?

I took off the entire front, hacked some notches out of angle iron to serve as mounting feet and welded them to the core support. Set the IC on them, and started connecting pipes to other pipes, as I usually do.

Image

Image

Tried a couple different routing methods past the nest of snakes I’ve created on the passenger side, I decided on doing 90s to try to keep it out of the inner fender. I didn’t look up any write ups on installing these, but with it flipped this way the tubes interfere somewhat with the inner fenders, and with it the other way the outlet stuck directly to the battery.

Image

Image

Threw my factory intake plate on and a 2ndgen intake elbow of an unknown year. It just clears my 2ndgen hydro boost setup, but the cold pipe runs right through the middle of the pressure lines.

Image

It wouldn’t be one of my jobs without a SNAFU, so of course the starter stopped working. Can’t get one local until Monday, so I yanked it to see what was up.

Uhhh...

Image

I doused it with brake clean, re greased the bearings, and got the brushes moving again. Works like a dream, but it’s in really bad shape so I’m replacing it anyway.

Anyway, it’s in and together, I chopped the hell out of a spare grill I had and I’m hanging the original grill from the truck on the garage wall. I didn’t check for boost leaks, didn’t put retaining welds on the ends of the pipes, and sure as hell aren’t going to paint anything, but it is nice to finally have that air/water setup that never really worked off of there.

Image

Image

Had to update, this is the first real work I’ve done on the trucks in a long time. I’ve been playing the same video game for 3 years since it keeps me from spending money.

Nah, we built a house so I’ve been hiding inside where I can’t spend money.

The heartbeat second I started working on this truck again I ordered $300 worth of air filters, silicone couplers, and mandrel bends.

It also needs a disk break conversion on the rear and I’m eyeballing an airbag front suspension for it since the ride is atrocious and I’m about out of other tricks to try...

Maybe I should go back to video games...

Levi, have you seen pics of him? Don't let him BS you, he's still not thin!
Funny how these trucks get under your skin. I've been puttering with my new one when it's warm enough out.

I think that’s all beard, Pete. :D

Yeah, I stayed away for a long time but even that little bit of wrenching has me wanting to get back into it. I’ve had an RC tank laying around forever that I want to put in it, to get the factory tank out of there. #1, backseat my frame is almost cracked in half between the tank and the old spring hanger, and also because I’m still looking heavily into changing the suspension on it. I’ve got a factory, Cummins air compressor laying around that would, if it fits, make a good supply for a full airbag system.

Also, is it just because I’m on mobile or are all my pictures cut in half? I don’t remember this site doing that, it even cut all my blurry photobucket pics. =\

Must be my phone, oh well.

You guys aren’t going to believe this, but I’ve got boost leaks. I can’t believe it.

The 2ndgen IC has some weird ass pipes on the inlet/outlet, apparently around the 3.75” area. I’m squeezing 4” bolts down to fit them, but with 4” clamps that don’t quite close far enough. I had one blow out on me at 40psi on the first test drive, so I finagled it around and got it to hold on while driving, but I threw my leak tester on them at work today and they’re both pouring air.

I’m actually a little excited to get it completely sealed up and see what the blower actually makes, it’s always idled at 3psi and cruises at about 5, hard decels may see 7-8ish.
