KDP tab/ retainer?

Postby Begle1 » Thu May 17, 2018 11:17 am

Where can I get a KDP retainer all by its lonesome, not part of a kit?

You can make one. I just used a pointed punch and staked mine. There are a lot of options, but most people get hung up on the "kit" idea IMO.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

I peened mine too. My 92 had the external fix done. I think wannadiesel used to do that ( :smurfin: before he was a she :smurfin: ) to some guys trucks. I didn't see it until I took off the cover, but I am glad I did. The case bolts were all loose.

I agree many people get hung up on a complex fix. I staked one...just a couple small punches/notches in the aluminum bore of the case works well. Other one I used an old U-joint strap cut and holed opened up a bit....worked pretty well too. But the case bolts are probably more of a danger then the KDP as mentioned. ;)

I have it all apart right now.

Idea is to red Loctite all the bolts and retain the pin while I'm in there, right?

There are 4 case bolts I believe (been a while since I did a set. :P )....yes pull them, clean them good, spray the threads with brake cleaner, dry well with compressed air if possible, then a dab of loc-tite and re-install. There is one bolt behind the cam gear I believe, you can not get it all the way out...just clean it the best you can and loc-tite and re-install.

I just peened my KDP in, she was definitely going for a walk. A tab would not have worked with my case.

What's the official number of case bolts? I'd like to make sure I got them all while it's open.
