On a 1st gen the timing case bolts are more likely to loosen than the KDP to come out, but it does happen. Loctite the case bolts and tab the KDP both while you are in there.

That image is hosted on Imgur. And yep, I bailed on Photobucket a looong time ago after it seemed they got invaded by malware ads.

I saw in the service manual where there is a special tool to center the cover/seal over the crank snout. Is that really needed or is there a DIY method of doing it?

When you buy the front seal it usually comes with 2 extra pieces, a wavy metal washer which is the installer and sets the depth, and a plastic sleeve that's usually right in the seal. The sleeve goes in the seal as you start the cover on the crank, then you tighten the bolts before removing it. I had to use vicegrips to get mine out, it was a snug little bugger. I guess you could install without it, but I've always used it.

I’ll have to collect up the parts to get that done. I thought I’d have some time to do it this weekend but I discovered some stuff that needs attention on my big truck (Freightliner Columbia). That has to be done before I go back out Tuesday.

So I've been daily driving the Dodge since the Equinox died on me. Last night the battery died on me leaving work. This morning I couldn't get it to jump so there I was left walking a mile to AutoZone carrying a 60 pound battery. After two miles walking with that dam battery my fat butt was beat.

Haven't you heard of Uber? I would have used a hand truck or the kids wagon, NFW I would carry a battery that far.

The exercise was probably good for you though. ;)

I had no choice. I was there and back in 40 minutes. The backpack I have has wheels but they checked out on the return trip. It's good exercise though lol. I need to loose a few pounds anyway. It was wierd how it died though. It never showed a sign of failure. I went to lunch came back and the truck cranked once at when I got off and was dead. I put it on the charger for 15 minutes and it fired right off. This morning though it wouldn't even crank the truck. It wouldn't take a charge and my jump box just wouldn't let it crank enough to fire.

I just got back from Iowa, my truck crapped out about 8 ways from sunday! Bad ball joint and ate a tire, wiper arm broke a bushing so only the drivers worked, master cylinder was leaking, 1 1/2 week old alternator died, wire kept falling off the FSS on the way home.
Damn I had a good time!

Thanks Andy. You should try to get out some time, it was a big turnout this time. Or Missouri in October, I think that would be closer for you.

I want to shoot for next year. We have a ton going on right now and getting ready to start on a new house. That probably won't be done until October sometime.

My alternator quit working for about 2 weeks, was planning on trying a new regulator today, but it decided to start working again yesterday. Poor battery charger was getting a pretty good workout lol. Having issues with keeping wires to stay hooked up for od and lockup, PO used bent up spade connectors to hook to trans. Gonna try and track down a proper connection for the trans that plugs into it. Nothing like passing someone on the highway at 75-80 mph then losing od and lockup.
