I have a leak in my ac line that i cannot locate. I've pulled a vac 5 times so far and still no luck. Any ideas? I've sprayed soapy water everywhere I can think of and no luck. Any ideas? http://s58.photobucket.com/user/imtonyd ... 0D150%20AC

Probably get some refrigerant dye in the system and charge it up. Run it till you can find the dye........or use a sniffer, those I've used were unreliable at best.

I agree with Ellis 100%! Next time it's low add Freon with dye, then run it a day or so and look it over with the UV light. It will show up big time! If you don't see anything it's probably the evaporator.
Sniffers suck! We had an excavator with a chronic leak, it would last 2-3 weeks and then be back for more juice. Sniffered that SOB a bunch of times, then finally added dye to it. Let it run for 15 minutes, looked it over with the UV, and saw it was leaking from a crimp on a hose.

Thx ellis93 & Ptoombs. I like the dye idea, but I can't get the freon to load. My understanding of how the entire system works on a scale of 1-10 is 5. My understanding is there has to be a complete vacuum in the system to take freon and I can't get the the vacuum to set long enough to do so before it zeros out.

My next step is to replace the expansion valve. I just removed mine and it's dirty. Don't know how it got there, but there's leaf, yes leaf in one of the holes. My expansion valve has a switch on the side. The one I bought does not and it's smaller too. I am going to drop it off at NAPA and see if they can find one that matches mine. After I install I will run another vacuum and see if that fixes my a/c problem. I will post the outcome on this step as soon as I can.

The way I do it is to draw a vacuum, then let it draw the Freon thru the low pressure port in from the measuring cylinder. It will usually pull in enough to turn off the low pressure switch so the compressor runs, drawing in the rest. You might be able to run power direct to the compressor so it will run and suck in the Freon and get enough in there to see the leak.
Also, Freon is under pressure in the tank, so even if your system has no vacuum, some should go in. This would be the case where you would want to hot wire the compressor.
Sound right to you Ellis?

I solved my problem by taking it to a professional who installed a new ac system for me. I should have done this first dammit.
