Leaking KSB

Postby SChandler » Tue Apr 08, 2008 12:54 pm

The tube that runs from the KSB valve (I think that's right) is leaking on my injection pump. About 1 drop of fuel per second. It is leaking where the tube threads into the top of the piece the KSB is attached to. See circled area in picture below. I put a wrench on it and it is tight (I can't move it without putting a lot more on it than I think is good for it). Any suggestions? Is there an o-ring in the bottom of it or is there a chance the tube is cracked. I haven't taken it apart yet, just want to get ideas for possible solutions.

no o'ring its like and air compression fitting but it could be over time its rubed apart and now has a hole in it, that should be changed because you can lose prime if air in there

Thanks for the info CK. I was going to try putting some teflon thread sealant (the liquid stuff) on the threads to try to get it to stop, but I guess I'd better just try to get a new piece from Cummins.

I'd pull it off and look at it close. If it looks Ok, maybe try to tighten it a little more.
I wonder if it can be reflared?

Reflaring it might be an option. It looks to me like the fuel is coming from where the threads go into the cast tube with the KSB on the end. I don't think it is leaking from the tube. I'll have to pull it off and look at it and make a decision. Do you guys know what the official, Bosch manual term is for that tube or a Cummins part no. for it? It would make it easier than trying to explain to the guy at the Cummins shop what I'm trying to buy from him.

For a 114 pump the Bosch p/n is 1 460 793 311 ref #366 and it's called "connecting pipe"

Thanks sdstriper, that should make it a lot easier. Do you know if the part number is different for the different pump numbers? This is leaking on my 92 which should have the 205 pump, right?

Sorry about the bad mojo Ck :D . Let us know what you find fixes it. I don't think I'm going to get a chance to work on mine until Sunday or Monday.

It sure could be different, there was a change in the KSB if I am not mistaken, you'll want to ask for sure I guess...

Whenever looking for parts for these pumps, I am always told at the Cummins store that anything for the pumps has to come from a Bosch pump shop.

This can be somewhat annoying, as on many projects, it forces me to have to make two seperate orders and hope that I don't forget anything.

Is this pretty much standard practice across the country ??
