How to make it go fast

My 90 has been at 40 psi for almost three years with 250,000, Dad's 94 has 390,000 and has been gated to 40 for about 7 or 8 years now with an occasional pressure creep to 45 psi and my 96 runs about 38 psi exept the 13 passes at the strip pushing 48 psi at 1650 deg (say no to marine injectors). All have 12cm housings and have never had the head off or retorqued. Local guy around hear is still running a stock hx35-12 and stock head gasket to 60psi for almost a year now, I do believe he is skating on thin ice though.

Predicting when your stock head gasket and turbo will go is a lot like predicting the weather......your best guess is still just a guess :D

but there accurate guess, we know that most hx40s will go around 50psi
we know a good head gasket will go round 45psi, we know a stock turbo is good for 40psi, and when they go they go around those numbers

I would be more than happy with around 40, my dads is only putting out 28 and it is a beast, when you load up his goosneck and hammer it everthing grunts and growls much more power to the ground would probably explode the internals of something(tranny, transfercase, diffs)
he already goes through rear ends every 50,000 miles, but when he uses it he really USES IT. My truck will see a 10,000 pound trailer occassionally, I just want to be running through traffic and pull up to a rice burner and turn him into mince meat.
1990 dodge w350 cab and chassis frame single rear wheel 99000 miles with chrome stacks between cab and bed paid 1300 for it after a years worth of work i got to drive it

JQmile wrote:Hey guys! New here to the board and figured I would say "hi." I own a non-intercooled 89 2wd Dodge that I wanna make go fast, and I also happened to write for Diesel Power Magazine, so it's going to be a project truck. Going from mild to wild so look for all the budget mods first, and the 14mm pump stuff and slicks later. Figured I would let ya'll know so you can follow along if you want since 1st gens don't get much love. So far it's made 200rwhp/408rwtq with DDP 4 injectors and a stock pump (not turned up), through an auto (727).

Thanks for lookin

Me too! :D I'm going to try and get the pump baselined at a injection pump shop (flow rate in CC's), then put on the 14mm head to see how much of a difference it will make. I'm also going to try running it with a cheap fuel system to see if it works without making the pump seize. Better my truck than yours ;)

I was talking with a few of the people I'm working with on my first gen, and we got talking budgets....what is "budget" anymore? For instance, I think when all is said and done I will be 350-400rwhp with no nitrous, have a rebuilt trans, and the truck re-painted for under $8000, including the purchase price. To me this is very much still a budget build. If I choose to step up to twins and an OD trans, suddenly the price jumps above 10K...so what is an acceptable amount of money to spend on a hot rod first gen (including the truck) 10K? 15K? 20K? What do you guys think?

I think 10G is a little high... 8k is good including the price of th etruck... I only plan on having 5k in my 89 pulling truck and plan on it being pretty bad ass.
