Yellow is positive (+), red is negative (-).

Thermocouples use the red as a negative. Strange, but commonly wired backwards...

Yes. There should be a 12 volt ignition and ground to power the gauge, the positive and negative probe leads to give the gauge the signal, and there is probably a light too.

Not necessarily, the older Banks pyro I had on my 6.9 was a self powered gauge, the only other connection other than the TC wires was for the backlight.

I have heard that some gauges read very slow. They take a long time to show actual temp. The temp goes up and down very quick. I have heard guys that replaced gauges and are shocked at the diffrence in gauge speed. Just something to watch.

No power needed except for the lights big guy!

Remove the bare shorting wire from
between the gauge terminals and
attach the spade terminals to the back
of the gauge. Connect the yellow wire
to the (+) terminal and the red wire to
the (-) terminal. If the lead wires are
accidentally reversed, the gauge will
read backwards.

I couldn't believe it was that simple. We could have hooked it up and tested it while you were at my place.. ;-)
