Engine Rebuild

Postby Okie Smokie » Wed Aug 13, 2008 7:08 pm

Hey guys I'm about to rebuild my 5.9 out of my '93. I've heard of high torque pistons, ceramic coated pistons, etc. I'm also looking into converting to a p-pump fuel system, and changing the cam. Problem is I can't find a good website with high performance piston and cam options. Any help, suggestions, comments or snide remarks would be appreciated.

I dont know for sure but from what i've heard from the guys i've talked is they run marine pistons because those come coated already. so hopefully that helps some.

Anyone know where I can get some info on the marine engine components? Maybe a CPL# off one of them so I can communicate with the parts guys at Cummins?

3800756 Is the piston kit part number for 15.3:1 teflon coated skirt pistons. That is a Cummins part #.

Got my hands on a '94 engine. I'm just going to rebuild it with some 16.5:1 pistons. I know about the dowl pin upgrade, is there anything else I should be aware of before I put it back together?

I would atleast O-Ring and stud the head while it's down. Make sure top of the block is in tolerance too. If you're going to the trouble of low comp pistons it sounds like you're going to dbe building a tough motor. The o-rings will just insure your investment if the PSI gets up above 50.
