Low-compression pistons on the street?

How to make it go fast

Are the coated pistons set to a tighter tolerance as on gassers? I know that certain coatings keep heat in the combustion chamber and away from the skirts so you can run tighter clearances. The main benefit is cold pistons slap and rock causing the rings to round off reducing their sealing ability. Less blow-by keeps the ring grooves (and the oil) cleaner and scuffing down.

I am appalled by how much blow-by my truck huffs out. I think I have more exhaust flow out of the vent and your average Crown Vic's tailpipe....

I wonder if Total Seal will make rings for a Cummins pistion????

The price on a set of 370 marine pistons are 187.88 a piece from my local dealer and they are the 15.3-1 compression with the teflon coating-twiddy diesel in florida can sell you a whole rebuild kit with mahle pistons 575.00 plus shipping and another 300.00 for any compression ratio you want with ceramic coating

Ceramic coating has longevity issues, doesn't it? Tends to wear out within 100,000?

Bruce Mallinson has been ceramic coating pistons for 20+ years. Average life to overhaul is in the 6-700K range, IIRC. Keep in mind, these are 800-1000hp engines that haul all the time.

Alright, that sounds like any worries about longevity issues can be alleviated.
