Cracked block

Postby VEfreak » Wed Oct 22, 2008 7:47 pm

Hey guys i hate to post this here but i need some responses from people who know something about something(Damn cumminsforum.com). My buddies 24v cracked. Yes 53 block. His mechanic(Ken Imler, JQmile knows him) said that you can only replace his block, the truck is a 2000 by the way, with one from an 98.5 to 00, and not the 24v from 01 to 02 and i want to know if anyone knows why. It's Ken Imler so at this point i have to trust him, but i want to know why.

some try to patch. some of the fixes dont work.

if ya go to the labor to try to do it right ya may as well replace the block with a 56 block or a mexican.

i guarantee ya if it were mine it be replaced w/ a new block.

Yes there is extensive write ups on it.
if you can repair the block it is time consuming and tedious
and you never know if it will last
http://www.dieseltruckresource.com
if you drill down in here there is a lost of talk about it . I was involved in a repair years ago and it never went well lasted for a year and then let go

If you buy a new block from cummins they are all the same from 1989-2003 for the trucks. There have been many blocks over the years but they all substitute to the same one.
