DD horsepower

Postby 2wd_sled_puller » Mon Mar 02, 2009 7:32 pm

i just bought a 93 first gen and got a couple questions. Before i bought it i notice there was a little bite of water in the oil but hey for 258,000 miles and me paying 400 dollars for this old girl i couldn't pass this truck up. Where can i get the thicker head gasket and studs for this baby. Do yall have a part number

Next i will be pulling 20,000 pound regulary with this thing. I am going to have a fully built georend brothers tranny and problemy twins. can i make 500 hp out of this puppy and it still be reliable enough to pull that kinda weight?

Im new to the first gen but not new to the diesel's

500rwhp will not be reliable at all, especially for towing. In my opinion, a very good tow rig would have 325-350rwhp. It will have all the power you will need, and still be very reliable.

Also, if you are going to use it solely as a tow rig, and want to keep an auto tranny, you may want to look into a 47RH, from the '94-'95 2nd Gen trucks. The addition of a lockup converter will really help with towing, and there is a lot of aftermarket support for that tranny. For either tranny, Dave Goerend is the guy you want to go to though.

Is the tranny thats in my 93 the 727 how do i check. Ive heard the the 93 is a new tranny with OD. Im thinking about putting a Nv4500 behind this thing. I can get 350 hp just by doing pump work and injectiors can't i?? The turbo will just be a add on i want twins to keep egt's around 900 to 1,000 on hard pulls

The tranny in the 93 should be a A518 4 speed overdrive. 900 degrees on a hard pull with 350 hp. I wish you luck.

It's a .020" OVER headgasket that's the popular one, right?

You can probably get the gasket from Cummins, but if you can't here is a link to where you can.
