4" lift shocks?

Postby DoWhat? » Thu Sep 03, 2009 7:22 pm

Where can I get 4" lift shocks for a w250? As usual, none of the online sites list anything...
-91 W250 day cab 5 speed
strait pipe, monkey pump, big tires
-96 Ford F-250 PSD
strait pipe, big injectors, tunes

for rancho you can look in their catalog
http://www.gorancho.com/products/docs/08Shocks.pdf

use the part number on summit racing website

bilstein shows shocks on their website but doesnt specify lift.

Don't go buy the amount of lift you are putting on it. Go by the stud to stud length for a ride hight. Then flex the suspension out and measure stud to stud agin. Then figure how much bump it might have. That will give you the operating permiters for the shock you need.

Now the bad news. The selection of shocks with 3/4" bushings is pretty slim.

I am fighting shock selection problems with my 2" skyjacker lift.

These Ranchos were supposed to be 2 inches longer than stock, but even before adding the last inch of lift they were running near the top of their travel. So I modded the front mounts by basically shortening them an inch and beefing them up to get them running closer to the middle of their travel with my 3" lift. Front mounts cracking across the top bolt hole seems to be a common problem. Maybe runnning improperly sized shocks contributes, dunno:

Well I can give you the spec's on my 2" lift. Ride hight is 20" stud to stud. Bottom out is 16" stud to stud. Max travel is around 30" of extension. The bad news is no shocks fit that set of perimeters. I am going to have to limit the axle with straps on the extension to 28". I have to limit bump to 3" travel.

I spent a couple of hours on the phone last week just finding a shock that would go to 28" of travel.

Front Timbrens are doing that for me. I believe the max extension is right at the limit of travel on the shocks with these mounts, from what I can tell. Probably should consider some limit straps myself...

The stock shocks are to short. When I went to drop the front axle. I had the frame supported. When I unhooked the stock shocks the axle droped almost 1". That was a set of monroe gas charged shocks.

A friend broke a monroe shock a couple of months ago on a ditch crossing. It pulled the shaft out of the piston. This was on a W350 dually like mine only a getrag trans.
