Boost pressure pushes the fuel cone down allowing the guide pin to travel up/out the ramp.

Given that, then the limit of the AFC lever travel is then a combination of the guide pin and the fuel pin. And the AFC lever in turn sets the governor position, along with throttle position which actually then controls the amount of fuel delivered. At least that is how I understand the system to work.
are you saying that the guide pin wont come in and out unless the engine is running and the afc unit is all together? and it is normal for the guide pin to stay in its hole if the afc cap is off the fuel pin out and engine off? thanks

ok guys, just got off the phone with BD diesel performance tech, he said the guide pin should come in and out when stroking the throttle linkage, he said if im looking down the afc and the pins not moving it is stuck and i should spray lube on it, hold the throttle wide open and tap the tip of the guide pin with a small screwdriver and if that works to lube it good while its out and work it back and forth. he also said after its fixed i should see more power and more smoke, yay! hope i can unstick it! me needum more power!

how slow and weak would my truck be with the guide pin stuck in? would it still be drivable? would it still get up to speed?

I thought mine was pretty slow and weak when everything was operating perfectly at the stock settings right after I bought it. Then I started trolling these diesel web forums and it's been all uphill ever since.

The guide pin will get stuck at times. You have to get a small screwdriver, stick it down the bore and push the guide pin in manually. Youll be in bid'ness after that.

Be ready to shut it off immediately, but you can turn the engine on with the fuel cone removed- the case pressure should push the pin out. If the pin is stuck, the truck will be a turd, as Richie so eloquently put it. It will run exactly as if you dont have the AFC hose hooked up. If the case pressure pushes the pin out, it will keep pushing it til the guide pin hits the backside of the "well", and also likely cause a small fuel leak. Kill the engine, spray the pin with your faovrite lube, and push it back in with a screwdriver. Work the throttle lever again (engine off) and see if it pops out.

Should the case pressure of the running pump fail to push the pin out of its hole, remove the throttle lever. Remove the hex head plug at th e front of the AFC housing, and push the AFC lever (behind the just-removed plug) toward the rear with a small screwdriver. That should pop the pin into the well. Repeat the lube process, and replace the assmeblies and parts removed.
