craftsman 19.2 volt

Postby txs » Fri Apr 02, 2010 6:29 am

the standard batteries for these things aint very good, now all 4 of mine are dead. Anybody got some experience with the new lithium battery packs for these things. The old style batteries weren't bad in the drills but the sawzall would suck the charge out of a battery in no time.

In genral the lithium batteries are way better then nicad's. I would bet they last twice as long. Just a guess. You already have a good voltage to work with so that helps with amp draw. Unless your charger does both nicad and lith you will also need a charger. I know some now cover both.

will the lithium batteries work in the older tools? You do have to use the newer charger rated for the lithium batteries.

As long as the battery is made to fit in your tool your all set. The charger needs to be rated for lith use. Some are for both, some just do 1 or the other.

My experience with Craftsman tools in the last decade has been less than stellar. When I worked at Ole Hickory Pits, several guys bought some of the 19.2V drills because they were cheap. They couldnt charge fast enough to keep up with the workload (and these guys didnt exactly set any speed records on the clock). Didnt have near the torque of a Milwaukee or Dewalt.

i have never bought craftsman power tools and never will unless they pay me to do so. my buddy has a set of the 19.2 volt lithium powered tools and they do last a while longer than the old batteries, but i guess i just have grown up with 18volt milwaukee's and anythng lesser just felt like kids tools. i now have a set of 24 volt Ridgid tools and i thik they are lithium but not sure. they last a pretty good time

My beat up Milwaukee cordless would out-drill and out torque the new DeWalts when I was building BBQ pits.

OK, i bit the bullet and bought one of the lithium batteries, it works in my stuff, the cordless 19.2 craftsman sawzall is a real battery eater. The lithium battery works 3 or 4 times longer than the nicads. I took the old sawzall right into the store and had the guy break a new one out of a package and tried it in my saw. Did have to buy a charger, the older ones definitly will not work right with the lithiums.
