Dually Spacers

Postby Billy Boy » Fri Jun 11, 2010 11:29 am

Does anyone know where to find a set for our coined rims? I have a set of 285/75/16 Toyo Open Country's that obviously are way too wide to run in the rear as is. I came across these tires for free and they have a lot of life left in them. I'd rather buy a spacer for the rear and get the wider stance (which I'd prefer) than buy 6 tires all the way around. The bed is off of my truck and is being converted to a flatbed, so I have plenty of clearance width wise. I also have a set of Ford coined rims that I would like to run the "new to me" tires on. Any input would be helpful.

BTW, for those of you heading to Iowa, have fun and safe travels!

I know one time i used some ford alcoa rims on a 95 that i had and the rabbit fit that lines up the wheels
were way bigger than the fit on the dodge and they sagged down till they rested on the studs and with a
dually you know the lug nuts just have a washer not a cone soooooo the wheels were way off center, i
ended up making some tubes to slide over the studs to center the wheels and it was fine, now about the spacers
a friend of mine bought some off e-bay for not to much like $80.00 i think and they worked good, but don't forget
about the studs you might run out of thread.

Dar-

I THINK the Ford rims will line up ok, although I have yet to actually put them on and give them a run.

The spacers I have seen on ebay appear to be flat-faced (as opposed to coined) and have 9/16" studs. My cousin is running an ebay spacer on his second gen and they have worked fine for him. My concern is that the coined pattern of the first gen won't work the same as the second gen. Was your friend that ran a spacer running it on a first gen?

Something like these is what I am referring to: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110534540968&category=42614&_trksid=p4506.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26ps%3D6%26clkid%3D7930140769124865021#ht_3527wt_1165

Thanks for the help!

Thanks Dar... Maybe I'm mistaken? Can anyone confirm or deny any of this? The way I understand it, the dually rears on the first gens use a 5/8-18 washer type lugnut and are coined to allow them to mesh together (still need to use two acorn nuts to put them back on centered properly though). Is it possible to use a flat faced dually spacer like the ones for a second gen?

I've been asking this very same question for a few years now on multiple dodge/cummins forums. Either nobody knows, or nobody replies. I'm considering just machining my own. I need about an inch to put on 255/85's.

I think the general consensus is that spacers are a bad idea- that is one more joint to work its way loose and potentially cause a disaster. I'll run 235s on my duallies rather than risk an accident or worse just for the sake of running wider tires.

Billy Boy- you are right on all counts about the coined rims and fitment on the hub. See above for spacers. I would think one could take a flat spacer, and use a countersink to put the dimples where you need them for the coined rims.
