More GAS pulling truck vids, my 1st place hook

Postby bgilbert » Sat Aug 21, 2010 3:26 pm

I put it on 4 other stock trucks at a local pull in Vermillion, Illinois haha. 414ft to a 391ft for 2nd place. 2nd went to a 2nd gen Dodge gasser or an 8.1L newer Chevy, I can't remember which. I thought my engine missed at one point, Matt said he thought it was the valves floating at one point. Watch the vid and see what you think. I'm glad the big boys didn't show up haha, it was nice to actually get some cash back 8) .

Blake's 73 Dodge which is a twin to mine only a 2bbl carb though. Don't know where he finished, but it wasn't in the top 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0z3T-Si_vzA

Here is the 70's Dodge W200 with a 396 BB chevy. He pulled in the open gas class. This truck was built back in the late 70's, early 80's and beat up on everyone. Back then it had a 440 with a 6 pack intake/carb combo. Then someone broke into his barn and stole the intake/carb combo. That left a bad taste in the previous owners mouth for a long time. It sat for 25 years, then he sold it to this guy. The motor was locked up in the same condition with no intake. So being a Chevy guy, he put the 396 in it. Pull that dist out and check it for side play in the shaft. It almost sounded like the ign pickup touched the lobe on the shaft.

Valve float wouldn't have stoped if you were at that high of RPM. You would have had to back out of the throttle.

Hea Andrew. You notice how Bill had to look over at the camera and smile as he went by.

Nice hook though!!!

It's an older sled. Has a hard time stopping the high hp diesel trucks. It was an old AC tractor I believe that he built into a sled. Matt might chime in and say. I actually spun out at the end as apposed to having no steam left at the end when hooked to the 'big dogs' sled. I hooked again in the open diesel class and only went about 175ft haha. He had the box set to come up much faster. I also didn't leave the line hard at all. I think by the time it came up I had already lost all my steam.

Philip how do you know what spring number you have in the vacuum secondary? I started to remove the one on the truck only to find out you have to completely remove the whole deal off the carb  . I think with the heavy vacuum spring and single plane intake it takes awhile to 'spool' haha.

There's one more pull of the season labor day weekend that I'm going to go to. I might actually get the old spring removed.

Is the pan adjustable on that sled too?

I know our sled was set way to light last night
After the first truck in 2.6 went and did less then spectacular the sled operator made a few adjustments and the winner of the 2.6 class went 470 . The sled operator slowed the box down a gear and unloaded the airbags on the pan. This was the same sled that stopped me dead at 188 a few weeks ago.

I like when the street class is normal trucks like this, traction aid and weight is perfectly fine. But at my local pull last night, there was a 78ish Ramcharger with a 318 pulling after a 585cid chevy that was said to put down 980hp on the rollers  That's our street class.
