pulling this weekend

Postby ahale2772 » Fri Aug 20, 2010 6:16 am

so tomorro and maybe sundy ill be pulling with the old grey dodge, last year i ran the truck mostly stock with the old 727 and one screw on the pump, this year i believe i have the ability to actually do decent, and or break the truck, ive got the getrag in and the new clutch so im not worried about anything breaking intill i get to the d70, i hear the pinions are weak am i correct? ill be running 20 psi coming from my lift pump and im going to mash it to the floor once the clutch grabs, ive got 3.07's so ill be pulling in 4low 2nd gear, im not going to put anyweight on the truck untill i do my first pull id rather have some wheel spin than break it fist try any one have any opinions on what to set my afc at? my turbo is my main concern the hx35 pooped the bed so im back to the hc1 and i can get 40 psi out ofthe poor sucker if i dont watch my foot, how about my hitch should i try to get it as high as possible ?

last year i pulled a 199 and a 210 after 1 more turn on the fuel screw

if you type these inot youtube these are my 2 vids from last year

"1989 cummins 199.99 first pull "

"1989 cummins 202.95 2nd pull "

im looking for advice am i missing anything?

My 93 at 300hp will pull 1st high and spin out no problem, and that is faster than your 2nd low. If you have any amount of clutch and power at all I would go up to 1st high. If it starts to hop or bounce at all stop or it will be broken. Oh and I only run a 22inch hitch it keeps more weight on the front so the rear has to do less work and is less likely to break.

ok so 22inch from the ground to the hook attach point? i would like to keep some weight off the rear because this is my daily truck , the pull is tomorro only trucks under 8000lbs does that exclude alot of trucks ? i have heard my truck (single cab 8ft bed) wont be over 7k but i know some of the new fords and chevys are heavy, ive got 2 trys tomorro so im gona pull 4low 2nd gear first and them move up to 4high if the truck revs out, i dont see me making much over 300hp but i do think the truck will hook up well because ive got a heavvvvvyyy spring pack in the tront and new traction bars in the back, KTA do you reccomend i put alot of preload on thoes bars? they are exactly paralelle to my drive shaft and if i put 3 turns of tension on the bars it seems to angle the pinion up a lot further ( eats up almost a 1/4 inch of slip joint), should i find some weight to hang off my plow frame in the front if i do weigh in at under 8000?

More front weight will for sure help. I would say your traction bars should be adjusted so that your pinion is angled slightly down in relation to your driveshaft.

well i pulled yesterday truck ran good and didnt break, 1st pull i pulled 233 foot in the 8000lb class with the truck weighing only 6700, off the line i slipped the clutch way too much because i was the second pull with the guy before me stalling his motor twice, anyways she pulled good but on the first run the track was a bit wet, second pull was scary, the truck hopped like crazy and i was justy inside the 100 foot shutoff when i stopped the truck, my buddie has a video of the truck with the front left 3inches off the ground, i think i didnt read the track correct and it was much tackyier than i thought, anyways they let me pull again and i really had to play with the throttle to get her to hook but when it did holy crap she wanted to pull, i made it to 240 when the truck started hopping again buit she seemed like she had more to go. oh well im pretty happy with how i did second pull i brought the hitch up from 22 to 24 inches and gave the fuel screw another 1/4 turn, ill have some videos soon, i didnt place anywhere great but i beat acouple new powerstrokes and had a bunck of fun, videos soon :)

Sounds like you either needed to leave the hitch down or add more front end weight to keep it from hopping.
