Previously with a PDR35, ported 21 housing, Scheid EDM's, I mustered up 9.64 et and 76mph in the 1/8th mile. Hooked good, ran good. Now I've installed the SP66, and upgraded the fuel pickup and supply to 1/2"id. Went to the track and first run was terrible, 11 seconds . Open diff, roasted the right rear tire for awhile. After each pass I made, my times got faster and I stopped burning off the one tire. I eventually got it to 7.75 at 73mph. I'm thinking the trans was just slipping more and more each time, not breaking the one tire loose. The engine was screaming away, 52psi of boost, but I wasn't going anywhere. I'm guessing the trans was slipping bad. Buddies of mine were down near the finish line, said it sounded great, wasn't burning the tire off, but sounded like it should've gone faster. I always thought if you didn't have a good transmission, you couldn't load the engine very well. Well I'm probly making 450hp at the crank, but I'm sure not putting it to the ground.
BTW tach not installed yet, and no tranny temp gauge. I know it was hot, the tranny cooler lines were extremely hot to the touch after a few passes:shock: .
This same setup, injectors, turbo and intercooler made 450rwhp 900+ftlbs on my 5sp truck. It also had the 14mm pump, but it only produced 50psi of boost compared to 52psi with this 205 12mm pump.
That said, if I wanted to continue drag racing, I would need a setup that can hold 500rwhp 1000ftlbs. Would upgrading the 518 converter, valve body and flexplate be a waste of money/time? At this time I don't see buying a built 47rh. My trans shifts excellent. I feel it's a good transmission, most likely a somewhat fresh rebuild. But the converter ain't cutting it. I'm sure I'll get some laughs when I tell Suncoast or whoever I want a converter for a 518 VE pumped 1st gen capable of laying down 500rwhp . What do you guys think?
