Very, very early in production 1st gen?

Postby cmann250 » Tue Aug 09, 2011 4:15 pm

I bought my truck in march from the original owner. He told me that he bought it in October of '88. The info sticker says it was manufactured in september of '88. As i've been working on it and driving it, i've noticed that on the hood latch there are two numbers stamped in it.
The hood latch says 88 244. Any idea what this means? Production number?

Anyone else have this? It'd be cool to be in the first 250 1st gens ;-)

It's definitely an early build date.
I'm curious, I have personally seen 2 WITHOUT the "CUMMINS TURBO DIESEL" logo on the Message Center.
Does yours have the logo?

I've seen a few hood latches marked this way.
The "88 244" is an inverted date, it means 244th day of 1988.

not to switch the subject but the 93 Ive been woring on was one of the very last, he bought it in 94 of the lot brand new, three months or so after production of the 1stgen stopped

cmann250, does your truck have the high idle adjustment as well?

Mark- the message center does say "Cummins Turbo Diesel", but the previous owner said he took something off the dash that said "gasoline only". I'm not sure what.

Ahale- Do you mean the high idle in the cab? I don't have it, but my manual has stuff about it

It may have had a sticker that said "UNLEADED GASOLINE ONLY", somewhere directly above where the cargo lamp switch would be.
The high idle lock was an '89 and '90 5 SPEED ONLY deal.

It was likely something they did thinking people would need it if there was a PTO installed.

I've got one on my 93? I don't know whether it was added or not.

Yea, im pretty sure that's it.
I do wish i had the high idle though, it would be handy in the winter. But who wants to drive a 5000 lb, 2wd truck in the snow any way?

Total derail in a thread i started, but how do you do it? Weight? Or is it not as bad as it seems?
Because the last two winters i drove my dad's '97 4x4 7.3L Stroker. Thats a whole different ball game

Just add weight to the bed and drive like you have a brain. Tires make all the difference in the world. 10 years I've drove a 2wd in the snow.
