Where to buy a crank position sensor?

Postby Mt. Tam trucker » Sat Oct 01, 2011 2:15 pm

Hello,
This is my first post on this forum.
I have a 93 w250, auto, 280,000 mi. I have owned it for 8 years, it had 140,000 mi. when I got it.
I need to replace my crank position sensor. I can order one from the dealer for $140. Does anyone know where I might buy one for less?

Also, I read on here that the gap is supposed to be .050", this info does not appear in my 93 Factory Dodge Truck Service Manual, am I just not finding it in the manual. There is a some info on the sensor on 8D2, 8D8, 8D18l, or is there another manual that I should buy?
Thanks,
Chris

I have found a couple more sources, my dodge dealer said the part # is 4746691 Genos Garage lists one that they say is for CUMMINS 3924432 SPEED/CRANK POSITION SENSOR ('94-'97)
Is this the same sensor? http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo.asp?number=3924432
The mounting bracket looks different, does it matter?
Thanks,
Chris

You can't find one at your local parts house? If you have the dodge part number they should be able to cross it

For ANY engine part, go to Cummins. Mom got a crank position sensor for her jalopy for around $50 or so a few months back.

I have a 93 w250 and when mine went bad I got one for a 1994 at autozone it was cheap. The only difference is the mounting bracket but it still bolted up fine. It uses the same electrical plug and I set the gap using the cardboard off a book of matches.
