5x18s....

Postby JQmile » Mon Apr 09, 2012 7:56 pm

Any reason First Gen guys don't run 5x18 injectors like are more popular on some big HP second gens?

My assumption, is that we just don't need the fuel. 6x's did good enough that anyone that was looking for over 450 could throw a set in and compliment them with supporting mods, they were a proven injector.

How much faster do you want to go in one of these trucks than what 450hp will propel you? I guess for a dyno guy swapping set after set of ~$600 injectors is just what you gotta do, but I'd guess most of us just go with what we know for what we need.

Or maybe that's just me. :?

I have wondered this myself. Because if I understand it correctly arnt 5x18s just a hair over a 6x16? I don't know if its because one person did it with 6x16 and no one eles ever decided to experiment with somthing diffrent? Or Im just missing something completly.

Nope, that's my guess as well.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for pushing the limits, trying new things, and seeing what works, but if I'm paying for it and have no in depth knowledge on how it works, I'll just stick with what I've seen.

Is this question aimed mainly at the guys shooting for big dyno/small track numbers?

I understand that completly, im getting injectors right now for the new setup and to be honest im strongly thinking 6x16s cause their proven and im too cheap to be a test dummie ;-). But didnt stomp run some custom 5 holes with his setup? That and jqat are the only big hp number I ever seen with 5 holes in a ve truck, least that im aware of.

My truck sure didn't drop in power when I went from 6x16s to 5x25s, but it didn't really make any more either (on fuel).
I think Stomp has some injectors that are sized pretty similarly to mine.

What?
You mean you can't just spray N2o and dump extra fuel to make up the difference?

Mark.

Well, since it was brought up, I think you'll generally find that most 1stgen guys are traditionalists. We like our power like we like our trucks, fuel only. There just isn't much call for an injector that huge in most of our applications, because our pumps couldn't get a turbo that would clean them up, or even slightly challenge their fuel-dumping capabilities, to light in a realistic amount of time.

X2. I think we all know we can dump crazy fuel in and spray the heck out of it for lots of POWER til the bottle runs dry. Most of are looking for every day real world power. I am in NO way knocking Rust Bucket , it was a cool build with lots of info that can be used by any 1st genner. I for one would still like to see you put a good set of twins on it and see where you can go with it. I'm looking forward to seeing how you put that power to the ground and seeing some interesting time slips from the track..........Bill

I see your point, but I honestly don't think 487 on a single 62 is that bad either.

I would do the twins if Stomp and KTA hadn't already proven what they were capable of. Or, if more people were buying the 14mm pumps. Most people are scared of 'em, so I don't see much point in going bigger when it isn't going to benefit anyone, really. I could do it just to prove a point, but I have other irons in the fire. I'm just enjoying driving the truck around right now. I WILL take it back to the dragstrip, just not sure when.

Edit: ok, let's get back to injectors.....what have people dynoed at with 5x14s or 5x16s?
