new fuel pin

Postby IowaCummins » Sat Dec 19, 2009 11:03 am

alright its just in testing stages right now but i have been playing with a fuel pin design for quite a while and im just getting some made. i dont have any other fuel pins to compare to cause all i have had is the stock 70 pin and that is the only one i have seen in person. but the one i have in my truck righ tnow is out of mild steel cause i wanted to see how it would fuel. i dont expect this pin to last 100 miles cause of the soft steel, but the final ones will be made out of alot harder and better quality tool steel. the mods are in my sig, total boost in overdrive was right around 52 pounds, 3rd through 1st was around 45 pounds. egts were 1250 1-3rd gear, and max pull in O/D were around 1325. my new fuel pin 1-2nd gear 45 pounds, 3rd gear 50lbs and O/D was right around 55-56 pounds.
max egts were right aroudn 1400, never got above that. here are some pictures of the fuel pin next to the stock "70" pin.

might consider making some kind of visible notch on the top of the pin so that when its in the truck with the diagphram on you can see where 90 degreese to the motor is.... just an idea

Looks pretty deep at its deepest point. How bad does it leak fuel into the diapraghm area at full boost?

i have been keeping a close eye on that. and no fuel has been leaking so far. this is the first one. so i am seeing where the pin is traveling and i will adjust the next cut.

yesterday i just finished a new profile for the cut. got one pin polished and is getting heat treated today. hopefully no warping when heat treating! then if there is none its getting tested in the truck for a week whilel i make a new profile for less fuel. im goign to make this one less agressive and be like the TOW pin compared to the GO pin. haha alright off the metal shop

Not at all. ;)

@ IowaCummins

I like the very gradual ramp you have from minimum fueling to max. ;)

nice- i like to see r&d. i grind my own. keep in mind cutting much deeper than stock wont get any more fuel, (unless you count leaking in to afc.) the afc lever hits the insiide of housing. to get more fuel you have to grind a little off afc lever. 1/8 + then you still have afc control for faster spool-up. (i need that at my elevation, 4800 ft.)

That's my Ol Smokey that I modified somewhat.

This is the front view pic right now but I'm not getting a track towards the deepest cut, only ~ 2/3 way down.[/img]

Sure would be nice to just BUY one that you don't have to pay through the nose for!
I mean, more than $50-$60 seems pretty spendy to me.

I think there is a pretty good amount of money being put into making them, I know m&h pins are hardened and chromed. I would like to see them cheaper but I dont think $100 is completely out of line.

Oh yes it will. Without the lever hitting. :)

well got the new heat treated and tempered fuel pin done today. with the current cut i have it is not leaking fuel from the o ring. i have only ran this one today for about 10 miles and so far it has been exelent. it is deffinately a fuel mod. lol with the stock one in egts max maybe 1300 this baby in i think you could hit 1600 if i held into it longer. but righ tnow i will run it to 1450 and let off and continue throttle at 1300 and pulls around 55 pounds.
