re 90 d150 3.9l stalling and flooding

My issue is my truck is 9 times out of 10 when I come to a stop. Sometimes I can get it to start immediately. Most of the time it take 5+ minutes and smells like it's flooded. BTW, this mostly happens when my truck is near empty. Not so likely to happen when i have a 1/2 tank or more of gas. Also, I parked uphill the other day and had a real hard time starting it. I put it in neutral and rolled it to as close as possible to level ground and got it to start. There's also been times when it stalled before I came to a full stop and I tried to roll start and no go.

My vac lines are all good. My throttle body has been rebuilt and I also have a new EGR valve.

Most of my research points to the fuel pump as the culprit. What are your thoughts? I went ahead and bought a new fuel pump but can find where the existing one is to replace it. HEEELLLPPP please. My Haynes manual is failing me.

Fuel pump is in the fuel tank, gona have to drop the tank to change it.

I dropped the tank and changed the fuel pump. Put it back together can't get it to start. Thoughts?

If you could at least crank it before and you changed the pump,and now it won't,can't be much else than either a poor connection on the pump plug or a turd pump. Where did your pump come from?
With anything electrical......if you go cheap you get Schit parts.
Fuel pumps are one of the areas of part categories that is best to buy once,cry once. Buy the best you can.

Try priming it with some gas, or a spray of wd40. Although you shouldn't have to with a new pump. I'd change any and all filters/screens as well.

I could be wrong, but usually there will be a 10-15 second priming timer energized when the key is turned ON. You should hear the pump kick on. I would disconnect the fuel line in front of the filter, turn the key on and off (but dont crank engine)about 10 times or until fuel starts coming out of the line. Then hook it back up and crank away.

I meant prime it by pouring a little fuel or a spray of wd40 right into the throttle body and see if it fires up. Wouldn't hurt to crack a line and cycle the key as just mentioned and see if you get fuel either.

I bought a new fuel pump from NAPA to replace the new fuel pump from Auto Zone and installed it. I primed the throttle body and it started first try. Thanks everyone for your help on this.

Correct. I have a 90 D150 that usually won't start without a prime, and runs like schit. Same thing, needs a pump. I fired it up last year, first time in over 10 years, surprised it ran lol.
I'm already window shopping for an om617 for the 90 4runner, what a gutless stinky fuel sucking slob of a motor this thing came with lol.
