Rattle plate fix

Postby mhuppertz » Wed Mar 06, 2013 6:15 pm

I noticed that if I put my hand on the valve cover plate the engine was significantly quieter, so I traced the plate on some sound deadener and cut it out, then glued it to the backside as pictured. It made a difference.

It was probably rattling because the rubbers were beat. A washer under each end may have done the same thing. ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

It actually wasn't rattling, but it was transmitting noise.

Seems I tried the washer thing and the vibration had the washers cut into the plate. Rubber washers between the steel washers and plate are a must I think.

Your insulation trick is still neat. 8)

Good eye!
1969 Dart GT, 273 V8, automatic. It was bought off the lot brand new in 1969 as a graduation present for my friend. She drove it in So-Cal for twenty years, then parked it. When I pulled it out of her yard it had no moved since 1989. It has zero rust except on the surface of the roof, hood and trunk.
I had it running but the next time I started it the valves all stuck and some bent.
That's ok, because I am yanking it to make room for the 440 I am building in my garage!
Still looking for an A833 4 speed.

Told you where you could go for that.
I'm not playing in that rat race anymore, this 1stgen stuff is almost more than I want to take, as it is sometimes.

Nice fix on the sound telescope. :D
