1. Welcome :D

2. My '89 FSM tells me 3-5 PSI is what it should be at cranking speed. If your truck is turned up, I'd want more. The max pressure a stock VE will handle is 12-15 PSI

I don't know why this keeps popping up but it simply isn't true. My Airdog has been pushing a little over 20 psi for about 2 years now with not a single issue.

While its not the max it can handle, it's the most I would want pushing on a stock(unknown) IP seal. Just because nothing has happened to you doesn't mean it won't happen to some poor sap who's just trying to get his truck back on the road.

3 to 5 PSI is what the stock lift pump is rated for. With production standards this can vary quite a bit. My replacement pump from cummins runs 7 PSI after filter and 9 PSi before filter.

There is a 2 PSI drop threw the stock fuel heater and filter assy, with a new filter installed.

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE ANSWERS. IF I WAS GOIN TO INSTALL AN ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP DO I NEED TO BYPASS...REMOVE... OR JUST RUN THRU THE STOCK LIFT PUMP? INSTALLED A NEW LIFT PUMP AND IT CRACKED AT THE INLET. LOOKING FOR ALTERNATIVES.

You can run through the LP, but if it's a diaphragm style and it tears for whatever reason, you'll have fuel pumping into your oil that much faster.

Any of what you posted are viable options, and the fuel pump just uses a generic block off if you decide to take it off.

Welcome! I would bypass.

After fatty challenged me a couple of years ago with the "cannot handle more than 15psi", I cranked my old Walbro 392 up to 20psi prefilter. No problems.

my stock replacement from advanced auto parts (yeah, I know... should be cummins. It failed far from home and I put in what I could) is 15-17 prefilter. It helped find the weak seals in the original 200K VE pump in about 1000 miles. It'll pull down to 6 or so if I'm really romping on it. I'll stick with it for now!

Looked in geno's and i see some pump that look to have a block off plate attached, anybody have one? ...and how well do they work?

Several of the guys on here run Holley Black or there is the Carter 4601?. From what I have read, the Holley isn't rated for #2, but works well. As for a block off plate, any generic type should work. Have you looked into a Low Pressure Piston Lift Pump? It is similar to the 2nd gen lift pump, just puts out a lower psi that works well with the VE. I have found a site that has the parts needed for the swap, I think it was gonna run me about $140 for everything to convert mine. Beats some of the other places that sell kits at $200+ ;)

Oregon Fuel Injection has them. They're $60, but they aren't officially blessed by Cummins. The Cummins ones are $180. It's about $80 the line, gaskets, spacer and such
