Postby cumminz90 » Sun Apr 12, 2009 6:19 pm

hey everybody got a question about the blocks on these trucks i have a 1990 non intercooled motor that recentley blew a headgasket and when i pulled the head it also scoured up number 1 cylinder wall pretty good  i was told the early 5.9 cummins was sraight bored and had no sleeves is this true? Also wondering about how much oversize pistons i can get a way with also at size piston should i go with im debating between 20 or 30 over any suggestions? :wrench:

that is true. they are not sleeved. i would just go 20 over just incase something happens again, you can go 30 then

You can only go .020 and .040. If the other bores are good you can just have #1 bored and sleeved back to stock. Then you only have to buy 1 piston and ring set too.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

malhe makes a very good piston. we use them all the time at work on motors. i've never used there cummins pistons but for various gas engines from street to very high performance and they make a good quality piston. they do expand a little more then like a JE or something so make sure you take your motor to a good machine shop that knows this to set the clearances right.
